i fancy an air pistol for my birthday shortly as i have never had one. The only problem is that i have no idea of what power to expect and what are they capable of.

i want something for shooting targets with and maybe on a few rats down the farm what should i be looking at power wise and what kind of range will they kill at?

look forward to your replies....

it depends what you mean by air pistol, some of the single shot springers that runn around 5- 6 ft lbs like the hw45, i think its called, should kill a rabbit at close range, i know they are accurate guns, having used one. And some of the single shot crossman co2 should kill a rat at close range, just depends if you can get the accuracy. However the semi auto co2's are really for plinking, and are pretty fun. personally i'd stick to targets only, but i know people do use the HW45 for close range rabbits. Read some reviews, my experience is limited to gamo p23's and HW45's.

Cant see them having the power or accuracy for use against rats etc at all but the very shortest range. Maybe things have changed since I was a lad but 6ft lbs is pretty puny IMHO.

A

plenty enough to kill a rabbit at a sensible range...

i often carry 1 with me when checking traps, handy cheap tool for finishing off anything injured

As Stated UK Law Restrict's Air Pistols to Sub 6FP

I have Brocock TACs on Section 1 License - Still States they must not Exceed Sub 6FP

If thinking of confined spaces Check out the Brocock Contour Rifle - very Compact but Runs

at Just within Sub 12FP Rifle Restrictions

We have a Active Pistol Section @ Lea Valley - many use Brocock AimX Pistols

Which run very close the Sub 6FP Limit and are very accurate and consistant

BOB/R

Unfortunately, as we all know, that was another dumb attempt to appease the ignorant, which was down to the loading system/conversion possibility :hmm: , not the energy, and just how many still remain at large with NO Cert? :hmm::hmm::hmm:

You do need to decide what you expect of it, despite the legal limit being 6ft lb, VERY few actually get anywhere near that, ask before you buy! :good:
