Which Underleaver?

Having been very happy hunting with a CZ .22 breakbarrel since before the Berlin Wall came down, I am now thinking of getting an underleaver in .177 ( I own a CZ .177 target rifle and the shooting is definately flatter). The CZ is great but I could probably make do with even more more accuracy to give me greater distance. I have borrowed an HW77 in .22 but it doesn't perform appreciably better than the CZ, hence my choice of calibre, as I think that the flatter .177 would be better. Anyone hunt with an HW77 or similar in .177? Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

The HW77 and HW97 are basically the same gun except the hw97 has a higher comb cheekpiece, is a carbine, has a silcencer, and a wider loading port. I have a both and use both for hunting to great effect. Out the box they it may sound a little rough but once all the excess lube is taken out it fires smoothly and highly accurate.

I personaly perfer the 97 to the 77 as i think it is balanced a bit better, great rifles either way especialy after a tune up,my choice would be a pro sport as it is without a doubt the best springer out of the box that you can get, smooth with fast lock time and deadly accurate,it is a little heavy though.

I have a tx200 and last year sold my HW77K...both fantastic rifles and are very similar.

I prefer the air arms as the stock is nicer I think and it is also a bit smoother, feeling more 'tuned' than its german equivalent.

I also prefer .22 in the springer (and have beaten plenty of .177 PCPs when on HFT course with it as well)

Either rifle would be a good buy

Hi mate i have both the Air Arms TX200HC in .177 an Pro-sport in .22 both fantastic guns, superb walnut stocks and build quality the blueing is second to none in my opinion and they both shoot super accurately and really smoothly!

Safe shooting

I hunt with a HW97kt in 177 excellent gun very accurate and as all HWs has a fantastic trigger they have a higher comb than the 77 so more suitable for use with a scope ,I have owned plenty of 22 airguns before and take it from me the 177 kills just as well as long as you are shooting straight.

Thanks for the feedback lads! I will try and make it to my local(ish) club for a try out. The TX200 and the HW77/97 cleary both stand out, so I will try and have a pop with them in .177.

What kind of tuning would you recomend? A simple PFTE/teflon seal kit + lube from Chambers or somewhere, or a trip to a dedicated airrifle tuner? I am a pretty profficient engineer so favour the former.

Without a doubt send it off to Dave Hall is the man for Weihrauch previously know as Bonnie and Clyde. He makes the kit for your gun and fits it for around the price of a V Mach kit. He may take his time but will only send back the gun once it is running 100% correctly.
