Axe
I just as well considered that Hornady were the best. Then I realised this was based purely on heresay as I have never used them. So which do you think is the best.
al4x
comically i'm the opposite I've only used Hornady so can't comment but I've no complaints no misfires to date out of about 900 rounds and no problems with feeding. I'm tempted to try other makes but while the V-max's work so well I wouldn't want to end up with a load I don't get on with
Axe
So regard Hornady as the best? you didnt vote.
al4x
thats because I've not tried the others. They may after all be better!
sussex lad
Hornady but you knew that
Axe
thats because I've not tried the others. They may after all be better! I'm just curious to find out what people think is the best as opposed to what is actually the best. Like I said, I assumed it was Hornady even though I have never shot them in my rifle. Its what I have been led to beleive and yes I do feel like a sheep. (oh and mike, no you cant use your wellies)
al4x
ah in that case I'll chuck my vote in, its looking pretty conclusive so far though!
Axe
ah in that case I'll chuck my vote in, its looking pretty conclusive so far though! Thing is, I would have expected Hornady to be more expensive since the perception is that they are the best. So is it because they are the cheapest and the first to introduce it, that makes them the best?
Axe
Its all made in the same factory anyway. If that is true then it could explain why Hornady is cheaper, as they would profit from selling to the others. I had heard that Remmington was made by Hornady, but I have yet to see conclusive proof to these statements. I would have thought that Specific manufacturers would make thier own. al4x
I think its the economy of scale. Its all made in the same factory anyway. from memory isn't that the CCI one

miffy
Voted Hornady I have tried the rest and Hornady for me are the best....It's just difficult to get hold of them
Gemini
I think it all depends on what shoots best in your particular rifle. My rifle shoots well with both the Hornady and CCI but that’s because they are the last two ammunition types that I have used. The first ammo I bought for my rifle was Remington, and it was the biggest load of **** you could ever wish for. It wouldn’t group less than 2 inches at 100 yds and I had @4-5 misfires in all 4 boxes. Won’t touch the stuff ever again. G.M.
jonno 357
I have been using the Federal Premium V.Shock I was passing York Guns and bought 100. They cost me £23.80 for 100. He even applogised for the price been so high. I told him not to worry cos I won't be buying anything ever from that shop again Used them this week on the crows they are very good Jonno
jonno 357
I know Fister They didn't have anything else left. I was one of the unluckly **** that got sucked in by York Guns. He didn't tell me the price until the asked me to chip & pin. Very clever approach to get stock sold at OTT prices York guns could do better if the thinned the staff down. 8 in the shop 7 doing **** all Lesson learnt. NEVER buy from York Guns Jonno
Gemini
Friend of mine phoned York guns to ask about buying some PP ammo’. He was told that they had plenty in stock, and with that in mind he made the journey from his house in the north of Birmingham all the way up to their shop. And when he got there they told him that they hadn’t got any left, so HE won’t be using them again that’s for sure. G.M.
al4x
well having only used Hornady 17's so far my local had sold out so I've now got a load of Federal Vmax's and some 20 grain Hornadys so I'll see how these go, £8.00 a box for the Hornadys and £8.63 for the federals so not too bad
Gemini
i dont ring anywhere 3 hours away on a nod, He should be specific and say put it to one side for me, is he daft? No he isn’t daft, neither is he fikkin’ stupid. The only reason he travelled that far was BECAUSE he had asked for some to be put onto one side for him, and when he got there he found that they had not bothered. Gemini
You didnt say that Sorry bear but I just naturally assumed that if anyone phoned a shop that was 100 miles away to enquire about some ammo, and then travelled up there, then it would have been accepted that he would have asked for some to be saved for him. He had asked for 200rds of .243 in 100grns, and had told them that he would be travelling up there on the following Wednesday. He went up there only to be told that they hadn’t got any in. I can’t say anything about the shop personally because I have never used them, but I did say in my posting the HE won’t be using them again. G.M. al4x
ok set out to try the new ammo cleaned the rifle put my last 5 Hornady Vmaxs through, the group was about an inch at 50 yards so not bad considering I'd just cleaned it then loaded a clip of the Federals first shot and went exactly where it was meant to go then went to re-load and its not ejected the case tried to move it and it was stuck fast had nothing to free it with so had to go back to the farm to free it and exentually got it out to find a split nearly the length of the case Went back tried a few more and seemed ok but is this signs of a bad batch or does it happen occasionally? Dougy
just put my vote in. i use feds have tried others and have found them not to group as good. if there was a round that was cheaper then i would use them I found that when i tested remmingtons that the group was wider lower and to the left cci hollow gave a 1.25 group at 50yds . the cci game point at 100yds was over 1.5 So with a 3/4 inch group at 100yds using feds i will stick with them. Price is not an issue when it comes to killing whatever the quarry is.
