ando
Hi All 18 months ago I brought an Air Arms S410 didn't know the guy I brought it off, he was a friend of a friend sort of thing, anyway guns nice and tidy. Not knowing much about air rifles I took it to a local shop as word was he "may" have wound up the power a bit, not really knowing if it was true or not, don't know how easy or hard it is to do, didn't really think much of it. Took it to one local shop and ask if they could check to see what they thought, the guy loaded it moved a carpet tile off the floor and put the barrel pointing at the concrete floor, pulled the trigger and said to me, yep seems about 12 ft lb! lol took that with a pinch of salt and haven't been back there since. Anyway I went to another local gun shop yesterday and had it checked out, the guy in the shop and a few other customers were quite shocked when it came out at 19.7 ft lb! I have left the gun with them to have the power lowered, I was quite shocked as well knowing how much trouble I could have been in with only a SGC. So If you do buy a secondhand Air Rifle, get it checked out just in case. Cheers Ando
Harnser
I think many would have seen that as a bit of a bonus . I dont know of to many air rifle pressure testing policemen . Harnser .
M.I.A
Certainly not a bonus though, not worth the consequences. Because lets face it that few extra ft/lbs aint going to make much difference anyway Your lucky they are sorting it for you Edited October 7, 2011 by M.I.A
Bleeh
I think many would have seen that as a bit of a bonus . I dont know of to many air rifle pressure testing policemen . Harnser . I don't know many policemen who come round your house and check your ammo is being stored correctly, But people have been prosecuted for it, if they want to take you down (for what ever reason) it'll add to the list, be pulled over by a policeman in the car with a gun in the slip, he decides he doesn't like you and get's it checked, you are suddenly looking at 5 years for holding an illegal firearm. It's not worth it.
twitchynik
I had the opposite. Bought one off here from a member and turned out to be under powered due to a failed seal. What made it worse was the gunsmith showed were an attempt had been made to fix the problem but the seller didn't say this, even asking him about it. Definitely buyer beware out there, even from those who you think you could trust.
labstaff
I'd always check the power as you say, you never know why you may come in to contact with the Police whilst using it (as I'm sure most of you have read in the shooting press of shooters getting stopped). If its modern as well then it should be anti tamper, so (in theory) can't have been played with. P.S Ando, are you Mark from from dog training (i'm Leigh)? Guest cookoff013
similar situation when a guy came in to one of the shops i used to enter. came in to check the seals on his BSA spitfire.. the one with a buddy bottle gas system. came in to check it over as was loosing gas. only held enough air for about 10 shots. so the seals needed replacing. first chrono check, 22 ftlbs. then the customer was asked where did you get it from? customer said private sale from XXXXXXX. "Oh" gun turned back down to 11ftlbs.

Not herd back for the gun shop yet, will let you know how much it cost as they didn't know when I left it with them, so guess it'll be £100 knowing them. Lol Cheers Ando. sitsinhedges
An S410 takes about 2 minutes to adjust the power so make sure they don't rip you off
shoughton
I bought a Rapid 7 years ago - looked perfect and appeared to shoot OK. After buying and testing more thoroughly the power curve was far too pronounced across the bottle pressure and I took it for service - to then be advised that it had been fittd with non theoben valves at a previous service. Bloody annoying but it was all returned to original state by Theoben for just under £100 and shot far better for it. I think it's wise to be careful with PCPs. Just like with spring guns there are a lot of amateur gunsmiths out there with plenty of info of varying quality about on the web.
SimonT
You used to be able to buy these kits of ebay for the s410. They came with all new seals an uprated spring and instructions on how to increase the air flow...
