9.3x74r in action

An elevated shot and a very large back stop of at least 50ft only 20ft behind the target I think it was well and truely safe as houses.

You can see from the slo mo that the bullet doesn't bounce but sinks as the water plume is evident.

Also behind the quarry face is miles of dead ground.

A safe enough shot.

The energy stripped from a soft point bullet is emense as water cannot be compressed and as long as the angle is not slight it would be like skipping a breeze block not a flat stone.

I thought that too.

The back stop was apparent but by god thats a big round to play the lottery with.

This is my feelings, why risk it has no purpose other than a dramatic way to show off. The backstop was there yes but lets be honest full of rocks! Every shot each of us takes risks the sport of us all, to post and record such things don't sit right with me in these regards.

Applicant " i would like a 9.3mm please to shoot in the local quarry at water and film me shooting a big kicking rifle" Fireams licencing " what? !!!!!!!!!!!".

Not suprisingly i know an experianced and safe shot also an RFD who bought a 416 for big game in africa to which the licencing authority said ok, yet banned him practicing anywere in the UK with it (even though he could test it without asking if it were not his gun). We have vidios and acts like this to thank for those desisions IMO.

You need to get your eyes tested mate, the quarry for start off has NO rocks in it as its all sand and those bolders are clay, (also very good backstop).

The quarry has also been cleared for any calibre for practice as its backstop is that good.

A ricocette to miss the backstop would have to be almost verticle and what goes straight up must come straight down.(and very unlikely)

It was dramatic I admit but no harm what ever when it was safe.

Now had the 2 sand banks been another 40ft nearer the shooter the angle would have been different and so would the saftey.

The shots off the bonnet were into the same kind of backstop(quarry face) and your not crying out it was unsafe,,,, GROW UP and get over it.

It is on an open ticket also for deer, pig, shooting abroad and humane dispatch.

That's a nice rifle.

I don't see any issue with the shots taken. The bank looks steep and the targets are quite close to it. I think in this situation the film doesn't always capture the scale of a place so one must assume that as this guy has a rifle like this on an open ticket he must have a good idea what he's doing with it.

As for the use, who's it hurting? I thought it looked quite ammusing! :good:

He should have applied to use an MOD range or Bisley, as those ranges would be safe enough, and the Police could have had no objection as they are used for everything upto rocket launchers LOL

I plan on getting a rifle with either this round (I had one of these on the continent) or a 444 Marlin, as I need a large dia and heavy round for the driven wild boar hunting I will be doing again soon over on the mainland (Romania/Poland/Hungary/Germany/France). If you fail to drop one with the first shot you can very quickly end up DEAD, or if it doesn't attack immediately it will hide, and attack whoever comes near it, so you need a good blood trail to track it,and only large bore will give you this !! :good:

Right set up now and sighted in.

zeroed at 45m's

shot it free hand to help with the recoil.

you can see the x2 groups which are near enough for running pigs, 2 groups. They would have been tighter together if I had sand bagged when zeroing but it was fun just mounting freehand and shooting.

Jackal

Big sow.

Handled very well and was quick to reload, the amount of energy it put into game was unbelievable, the entry on the jackal was golf ball size and as big as 2 fists on the exit, ruining it for mounting, so i'm having a shoulder mount done instead.
