Get one that fits you. If it don't fit you wont hit :good:

That is very good advice.

try as many differing guns as you can before you buy, and then take someone with you to bounce ideas off. If you have a coach he or she would be the best person.

Remember the Gun Shop is there to "SELL GUNS" They do not all give out good advice.

Hello

just got my shotgun ticket

could people give some advice for a decent first and hopefully last gun

looking at silver pigeon for about £1,000

cheers.................................

First off are you right or left handed? Most people are right handed so a greater choice of guns is available to you. If you are left handed do check with your gun shop, see if they have any L/H guns or second choice is to have the stock cast over to suite you. And can they do that type of work?

What are you going to shoot or (shoot at :hmm: ) you wont be wearing a field coat in the shop, so take what you think you might wear with you, as fitting a gun in a tee shirt is very nice, but not very real….

For clays, pigeons, pheasants, ducks????

If your only going to do pigeons, then I'd say a semi everytime.

If your going to be out on driven shoots then a silver pigeon would be fine, check it fits nice.

If your going to be doing a lot of walking with it, then don't choose something too heavy.

I hope you heed the advice the members have given---it is excellent! Go to a clays shoot and handle and perhaps shoot a variety of guns. Shooting with the clothes you will be wearing is great advice. Good fit is worth more than any other factor. That said I am partial to a GOOD auto as they seem to recoil less. Berettas and some Brownings come with shims to adjust cast off and you can change pads for length of pull.
