sambo
hi guys im after buying a 4x4 not really to fussed what its like all its gonna do is be a shooting truck. so if you had 3k to spend which truck would you buy? Cheers Sam
Dr_evil
I bought a discovery for around that, low miles, high spec and FSH However I'd buy a 3.0 Hilux surf if I could have afforded the insurance as that 3L engine makes it rapid
RED BEARD
if its just for social and domestic then get a 110 or 90 land rover, you can get insured for under £200 on a £3500 motor.and it will go most places you'll need it to,easy to work on,cheap parts also it doesn't matter if it get dented. Dr_evil
You wont get a decent 110 or 90 for £3000, be high mileage and bad condition Good ones tend to start at about 4-5k, also they're not the comfiest truck out there nor the most refined and you might regret that in winter when you're having to wear 10 layers to keep warm in the
sambo
I used to have a 90 and 110 and agree not the best truck to be doing any distance in
RED BEARD
you'll get a good one for £3000,true there not what everybody see's as a comfy truck.but i'd rather drive my defender than my disco and also more comfy than my mates shogun.not true about the heater (unless the ones you've been in have had faulty heaters) most are lovely and warm, especaily if its a truck cab model. chrispti
Jimny, cheap to buy, tax, insure, run and maintain Failing that, a shogun, nissan torrano, freelander?
Dr_evil
I advise a Hilux surf Really do, the boot is huge, the rear windscreen goes down all the way so you can shoot out the truck properly without getting out and the sunroof is pretty big too
bobby dazzler
With price of fuel at the moment and going to increase you don't need any thing like a 3 litre job unless you are planning to do any towing get your self a jimny cheap all round truck to run and they are the dogs b......s of road
Dr_evil
the Hilux is pretty good on fuel about the same as the disco 35mpg, plus you can run on veg oil like I do to bring costs down as its an older style common rail jimneys aren't safe and they…….well……..they just suck

chrispti
Anything with 4wd and some decent AT/MT tyres will do the job All depends on how much room you need and how much you want to spend on the running costs
mfletch
I got a Isuzu Trooper for that money 7 seats "full leather" "air con" "heated seats" nice when the windows are down, 27 >30 MPG good off road and smooth on road. Its just my opinion as I have one.

bunny_blaster
Dr evil please tell me why you cant get a decent 90 or 110 for under 3000? Your talking utter ****!! I paid £1200 for my D reg 90 which had just over 120k on it. Not exactly alot for the age. It also had plenty of other kit that came with it lift kit, custom built roof rack, big off road tyres etc. Put a disco transfer box in it and you can sit at 70 on the motorway all day long. Keep your eye out on the net for one. There out there youve just got to look. You wont regret it. Cheers Ben
