Dougy
If its not in proof and its sold you will be liable to a hefty fine per barrel. You may not even give it away.
Ricko
As far as I understand the law it is a criminal offence to sell a shotgun that is not in proof. Either hand in to local RFD or get a quote to have it de-activated then sell it (finacially you may make a couple of quid doing this, but not much) Edited November 27, 2011 by ricko
kingnewport
how do i know if its still in proof?
Dougy
how do i know if its still in proof? nobody can tell you on here without actually seeing the gun and testing the barrels, it needs to go to a gun smith, you will then get your answer. You can have the dents knocked out and if possible have the gun barrels slieved or even re-barreled but you will have to look at the cost, will it be worth having it done if its old and past its time then it probably wont be worth spending the money. They all have there maximum use in life whatever make they are
gixer1
Cut the barrels just above the fore end and then take it to the post office for deactivation...:yp:
Scully
Cut the barrels just above the fore end and then take it to the post office for deactivation...:yp: Brill'! Kingnewport, you could take it to your local RFD who should be able to give you an expert opinion.Dents and bulges often take the barrels out of proof, but only he can tell you for definite. It is an offence to 'expose or offer for sale' an unproofed or out of proof gun, with a fine of £5000 per barrel if I remember rightly, but not an offence to 'give' one away.
