Redgum
A friend of mine has been offered a Ruger m77 mk2 in 243, I went along with him to have a look at the gun and it did look the part, nice controlled feed bolt, nice balance even with the T8 can on the end. Barrel looked real clean as did crown but I know nothing of the expected performance of these rifles. The difficulty is in testin it before purchase, I would say that it hasnt seen alot of work and the chap is offering it for £450 with T8, but like I said, I know nothing of Ruger, think my mate wants it as a foxing rifle. Mr_Logic
I would avoid, I had the target version many moons ago and it had a 'target' trigger which was nasty and a barrel which was pretty horrid too.
matone
Usually good rifles once you get the trigger sorted/changed,using a laminate h/b .204 recently, superb to shoot and very accurate.
Redgum
I quess you get what you pay for, I think I will recommend him to go down the Browning A bolt road, from what I have read they seem very good and since the launch of the X bolt seem to be cheap. bedwards1966
I've got one, also in .243, I haven't used it a huge amount yet but find it to be a very nice rifle, the only fault I can find is that the trigger is a little heavy (it had a new one fitted, due to it being worn). It's not a big job to adjust it if needed. I think £450 is an OK price with a mod.

Underdog
Friend of mine up Glenluce has had one for donkey's years, bet the bore is near worn out but it keeps on sluggin' 'em. Another feller has one in 223, I remember shooting white pebbles around 200yds with it with Hornady 55grn sxsp and BL-C2. U

Another vote for A-bolt,they do seem like a good rifle for the money, lloyd jones of lampeter shooting supplies has them in .223cal for around £499 (new)..think i'll go down that road after xmas passes, good luck with what ever you do though. TGEvans
Have one in .308. Love it too bits. I paid £300 for mine with a modded trigger. The Yanks love them too. They are one of the most popular rifles that side of the water. All I need it to do is drop Deer and Boar as and when required, so far so good. T.
