Chrisyboy
Hello I am new to this all but I have been told a air arms tx200 would be a good gun to use for hunting but I don't no what one a .177 or .22 if you can recommend any other air rifles to use pleas feel free to tell me thanks
fenboy
To make it quite simple yes tx200 decent gun for huntin as is the prosport or the Hw 77,97,95,80,99 etc. As for 177 or 22 both capable , as a wise man once told me a 177 size hole in the head will kill just as well as a 22 sized hole in the head. The key is to practice until you are capable of putting holes in heads of anything you wish to shoot !
ROY
I used to have the TX200 Hunter Carbine bloody fantastic gun for the money!!! .177 will have a flatter trajectory and slightly more range whereas a .22 will have more stopping power but slightly less range both are fine for hunting. with the .22 you just have to compensate more for pellet drop at further ranges. BerettaSV10
I asked a simular question as part of this thread, in the end it can be down to personal choice. http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/177847-s410-or-hw100/page__p__1505984__fromsearch__1#entry1505984

Bit mis-leading friend, a 22 does not have any more stopping ability at all. Air gun pellets kill via trauma, if anything the high vel of a 177 will POTENTIALLY create more trauma. Also the 22 pellet will be affected by wind more than 177. The above conclusion is based on many years of trying Best wishes. U.

This is all somewhat accademic, and certainly marginal when we are only talking about 12 ft lb, but the Heavier .22 pellet carries its energy better than a lighter .177, so it hits with more grunt, transfer that to stopping ability in any way you want! I have been a .22 man all my life though having seen what .177 can do in my hands and others has made me rethink. All down to what you have faith in but the little .177 sure does shoot a lot flatter. Remember this though, as an air rifle hunter yours is the greatest responsabily out of all. If a c/fire user gets it a little wrong no harm done, a humane kill. A r/fire user can still get away with a little off the mark. An air rifle user has to be SPOT ON! if it is not your quary will suffer, nothing any of us want. Put the practise in now and it will pay in the long run. LOTS of practise at targets till you are confident, you will still get it wrong now and again but you have done all you can to avoid this. Drop me a pm if you want a chat or help. atvb Paul.
labstaff
I prefer .177 for the reasons above. It will still kill if placed right but it is slightly more forgiving if you have misjudged range due to the flatter trajectory.
Underdog
This is all somewhat accademic, and certainly marginal when we are only talking about 12 ft lb, but the Heavier .22 pellet carries its energy better than a lighter .177, so it hits with more grunt, transfer that to stopping ability in any way you want! Nope friend! Actually the heavier 22 does not carry it's energy better! You see stuck at our limit the 22 starts of slower, thats the first point in comparison. Second is for all it's greater weight it's increase in size is not proportional, if you like it has gotten lighter than it should be. The third point is that as soon as it hits something it sheds velocity quicker, remember that it had less to start of with and now it is shedding more even quicker, and thats before it has really got inside. Now that it has got inside it is so slow that organs and tissue are able to move around it to some degree instead of getting ruptured and heamorage taking place(short of brain, central nervous systems). In my actual experience a 22 air gun running 14+grain pellets only starts getting interesting above 700fps or any sub 600fps used for shots under 30yards which I have done many many times and enjoyed every single occasion. Would I buy a sub 700fps airgun in 22 again? Hell yes. Would I buy a sub 700fps 22 air gun if it was to be my only airgun? Errr no! Best wishes U. andrewjames
simply put, both calibres are as good as each other when weighing up the pros and cons... however if your sub 12 ftlb go with .177 if your fac "or thinking to go fac in the future" go with a .22 simples. cheers andy

the_haganizer
Exactly as the others have said. But at the end of the day it is down to personal preference! I have been a .22 shooter (when I have an airgun) but shot .177 to start with. If I were to buy another I would be perfectly happy getting either calibre..
