utectok
Ok its blinking muddy here in scotland and I'm sick of getting stuck in my hilux. Well once actually but once to often anyway I'm considering some decent tyres what's good offroad but quiet and economical on road? I do a fair bit of road driving but also off road pigeon shooting or carting folk and dogs around our shoot etc. Whats the best tyre Edited December 7, 2011 by utectok
Dr_evil
I'm using BFG's on my disco Mates got BFG's on his L200 farm truck too All terrains are what we use, standard ones not the radials cos they're more road based (I still get 35mpg on the m'way)
scouser
had yokohama mud,s on my surf great tire but noisy on road, replaced them with B.F.G. AT,S great tire but a little pricey,

Northern Gunner
Thanks and the best place for tyres price wise ? I have bought my tyre's from the Internet. www.tyreshopper takes a bit of beating and it is so simple to do. You pay on line and then go to your local supplier and get them fitted. Look for their special deals. Good luck
Dr_evil
Best bet is google or ebay BFG's are about £105 per tyre in my local so you've got an idea on the price they should be

Radar_uk
I couldn't get BFG AT's for my Freelander due to the tyre size and availability so ended up with General Grabber AT's which I am mightly impressed with !
Moors Man
BFG's are great but as previously stated they come in restricted rim size. They aren't cheap but last for ever. I have got Grabber AT2's at present which are almost as good. The new Grabber AT is supposed to be good but have no experience.

al4x
if thats whats on the side of the tyre then that will be the size rather than your tape measurement, have a look at 31 x 10.5 r 15 they are very close to your existing size I believe, but you can check that online. You can adjust tyre size a bit to get a more common size by reducing the width but getting a slightly higher profile you will have a very similar rolling circumference so your speedo won't be out but usually you'll find a larger range of AT tyres
utectok
Er not sure I understand 31? 10.5? Is that inches or what sorrybit thick on tyres
Dr_evil
yeah, 31 diameter, 10.5 wide

Dr_evil
I'd recommend the traction tracks as they're fairly chunky or for more road biased get the mountain tracks, I'm just a BFG sucker though this is the mountain track on the left, the chunkier one is the special track, the uprated mud version of the traction track
woodcock1
I have insa turbo dakars on my defender. dazz
insa turbos also.on my shogun pinin £240 for the full set.
bigjohn
I've got Insa Turbo Dakars on my Disco. They're a direct copy of the BFG MT (Mud Terrain). Insa Turbo Rangers are a copy of the BFG AT (All Terrain). I'd get AT's for the road with some mud. The MT's aren't particularly reassuring, on the road, but will perform better when offroad and it gets really gloopy.
Dr_evil
MT's like to aquaplane in heavy rain
lxtav
I've got General Grabber AT2's on my Izusu Rodeo and they are quiet on the road and never once got stuck in the snow we had last year even pulling Transits out of it. Never had them in the deep mud yet but have worked for every field I've been in so far.
