Hunter
Met up with my friendly mentor this morning who is helping me along with the CF. Chucked the rifle in the back of the car and headed for the range. We got there around half 10, and put all our kit on the table, and set the rifles up. NOTE the little black blob at the 200 meters target, is my mentor. Thats a long way away!! 100, 200, and 300 meter targets Rifles were: From left-right, .243 Sauer Outback, Custom built stainless barrel 6.5X284, and my little .222 Tikka T3 hiding at the end. All rifles had Swaro scopes (mmmmmmm ) I fired the .222 first using remington rounds to burn the barrel in, then gave it a good clean. Its now got the barrel soaking in copper solvent over night. I then had a few shots on the 6.5X284... wow big change from the tripple, though I was suprised by the recoil of the .222 being more then I thought which is good, I like to know I have actually fired something. You sure know about it with the 6.5! My mentor shooting the .243 at 100 meters Then my mentor had a go on my tripple rifle, and got an amazing group at 100 meters. The target shows a 3 shot group (second shot was a one hole group) And the second target shows a 5 pence peice next to the group. Amazing.. I will get on well with this rifle! Hunter
Yeh its Richard Very kind of him to take me on, I would not have got the tripple otherwise. The 6.5 he has is custom built, using different parts from guns. It shot very well right out to 300 yards Edit: Cheers John, I have just added the groups! Any idea what action he has his 6.5 built on? Its not one of the sako 75's with the mc millan stocks and custom barrel they sell in the shop is it? That group is all the more impressive remembering you have a 6x scope
Dead-Eyed Duck
I have been told not to leave a barrel 'soaking' in cleaner for too long as it is mildly corrosive. Would someone please comment Regards Don

Hunter
The other night I took the .22 lr to the range at my local club, and shot 1inch groups at 100 meters. Also pleased with that! (Sako Finnfire Varmint) As for the cleaner, I have been told by various people its good to leave it in as it takes time to dissolve the crud in a new barrel It will probably only corrode the barrel if you do it all the time, as its only copper solvent. Nick, Spot on there. Sako action, and Mc Millan stock. Very nice setup! Im glad I went for the .222.. even though ammo is expensive, its a nice little gun to reload with. (When im ready for that!) At the moment it shoots the 40gr Winchesters the best. Pitty, as they are the most expensive!

Hunter
well done hunter, you are really having fun with your rifles i can tell Cheers chaps! Unfortunatley the Finnfire has lost the cartridge ejection spring, so the case stays very much atached to the bolt apon opening. This means I have to get the case out with my finger each time but il get a new spring put in soon. Hopefully they have one! no pics of the finnfire groups yet, but il take some pics at dunganick's place on friday (thats if they are good groups!) Frank
Thats some awsome groups their Hunter. Im well impressed. Pity about the spring on the finfire , but im sure it will get sorted. That .222, will hit them foxes with deadly accuracy at 300 yds no problem in the daytime. :yp: Best of kuck, keep up the good work. Frank. Hunter
I would if it wasnt a 6X scope :yp: Maybe this will get me started, so when im rich I can buy a variable Swaro I didnt think they were good to that range? I thought 170 or so was the max range
reefman
Good grouping with both rifles, It's great when you get a new bit of kit. That custom in the centre is interesting. The stock reminds me of a frock my Grandma used to wear, sadly she died in 1986. :yp:
Hunter
Its a smashing gun! (litterly ) The noise is immense, and does quite a bit of damage to the target boxes, which are full of sand. A big cloud of sand dust comes out after each shot. Dont get any of that with my little tripple :yp: Me thinks I will go for 6.5 when I have my DSC sorted

Hunter
Only put around 25 shots through it so far, so im sure there will be better targets once the barrel has worn in a bit
