Sadly it was a necessity to move to London after I left the Forces, even though I wasn't paid to relocate - it proved to be a profitable decision. I work almost next to Marylebone station for a big shipbroking firm. Having spent 2 years working in the City, it's weird being over here in Marylebone where the pace is much slower.

I worked in London (Barbican / City) for 3 years - I worked out that hour for hour I spent more time on a train then I got in annual vacation.

That did it for me and I know I could never live there - I can't afford St. John's Wood and the rest of London resembles a ghetto.

I don't think I've ever been to a more unpleasant place than the Barbican. It's grim, like a Soviet housing project.

I try to ignore eveything I pass between my flat next to Battersea Park and my office, pedalling furiously on by bike ride into work.
