Grease the main gear periodically. Second question, I tried it with a new battery and a very lightly built magnet and hyper-flaps. It lasted about 4 hours so with the extra weight of dead birds, i would guess about 2-3 hours. Giving it a go is the best way to find out.

If you take as an average power consumption of 2 amps per hour for a 2 dead bird loaded magnet a 7.5amp battery will last approximately :- 7.5 divided by 2 = 3.75 hours.

A magnet with hypaflaps will last a bit longer being a lighter load , wind and temperature can also alter the running time slightly.

How did you come up with 2amps per hour for two dead birds? Even as an average

Be a good calculation to know?

In my mispent old age I spend a lot of time fiddleing with kit, magnets I have made and tested as per various wiper motors used measure between 1.5 amp and 2.5 amp under indoor conditions loaded, it does vary wiper motor to wiper motor but if you use 2 amp per hour as an average for battery consumption you wont be far out.

Most people find a 17amp hour battery more than adequate for a days full runing.

I can vouch for Den, he does love a good fiddle...!

I only use my magnet round harvest time for a few weeks. When im finished I drain the acid from the battery rinse it out with water and store upside down with the water caps off. My local motor factors fills it for me for free or £1 each season. Ive had the same battery 9 years now. Not sure if it its worth it but ive got into the habbit.
