Nicky T
Are you guys talking about Coniston Cold? As in, the hotel with shooting facilities/4x4 etc etc? Someone mentioned it to me recently, said it was a cracking place. Looked a little pricey though. Thats the one The hotel is pricey but the clay ground is on par with most of the other grounds of its standard

Nicky T
you still mean pricey then I think that past few registered shoots there (all selection shoots or championships) have been £35+
BlaserF3
A group of us went in the Hotel a few year's ago for something to eat...liver and onions on a bed of mashed spuds £12.00 :o Needless to say we went somewhere else. Myself and a friend are going there today for a shot.
Dr_evil
I've never been but heard its way overpriced and they use one of those clay counter things so even if it throws a no bird you still get charged

Rupert
I like it and visit occassionally its a not an easy drive from where a live, its ok but the targets are the same every time i visit (its been a while) but if you get a no bird Peter knocks them off if you tell him. southrop
Very good ground and reasonably priced with multiple disciplines on offer. Never very busy and always friendly. It gets my vote.
BlaserF3
Visited today two of us, I took 115 cartridges brought back 5 was charged £33. There was a few no birds and the lass knocked some off the total count. We were caught out by the stands with only one trap, if you pressed A when B actually released the clay. It's not a cheap ground for a poor pensioner Edited January 20, 2012 by BlaserF3
Mr Potter
To be fair, the original question by Ed was regarding the ground for a registered competition shoot (an England selection shoot). I think the consensus is that, on past performance, he should not be disappointed, that the targets should be well presented, the facilities are definitely on the better side of good notwithstanding the dimensions of the serving hatch!! One thing that has not been mentioned is one of the newer attractions at Coniston Cold, about 300 metres before you get to the clubhouse is the recently completed "All you can eat Birds of Prey & Falconry Centre" now with free single portion of talons with every adult takeaway. Good shoot, great food! Coniston as a practice ground - well BlaserF3's experience makes it a bit pricey by my reckoning, as an example Catton Hall are open for practice on a Wednesday, a lot of "more mature" types (pensioners) turn up shoot, have a proper cooked lunch in the fantastic clubhouse (see their website for pictures and you'll see what I mean) and pay an awful lot less than than Coniston. They have a sliding scale of £13 for 50, £21 for 100 and £31 for 150. They are using the new Promatic "credit card" type system and they give you an allowance of 10% for no birds, so your 50, 100 & 150 actually becomes 55, 110 & 165. two traps on each of the 14 stands and unlike my last practice round at another un-named NW shooting ground, the traps were kept topped up throughout the day. VFM in my book. So Coniston do have skeet & trap layouts and have got a more than adequate clubhouse (+ those tasty BoP nibbles). Only the individual punter can decide if the price is too steep. No point spending £25 in diesel to save £6 in entry Potter VD & scar.
