I've never owned one, but I've seen through one, and they do have a name and a reputation, and more than a suggestion from S&B that they are identical except for country of origin.

 

I am yet to hear anyone say the Hungarian are ****, the German are much better!

 

let me go and find my tin hat, this could be interesting.

I once owned a Hungarian S&B and tried it along side an indentical scope make in Germany. No difference in optical quality whatsoever.

 

 

same as the good steve above,

 

they make one high in price to cover the costs of the so called cheaper one, both are as good as each other, but the con works.
