craftycarper
Anyone had any problems getting appointments of late, i've been with mine for years but just of late it seems to be the norm that a three week wait is acceptable even if you are in pain. i am lucky in the fact that she still does NHS and aint completely private, but was just told that the NHS funding has run out until the new tax year starts. Although i dont go to the doctors very often, last time i went he said according to his records i hadnt been for several years, but i am told the appointment system is just as bad as in two to three week wait for a appointment. Whatever happened to the good old take a seat and wait your turn routine.
Kes
Our dentist is a smasher. Checkups have gone from 6 months to 12 unless you have a problem and she will see you the same day usually - a special lady and much loved by her NHS clientelle. I was listnening to the news this morning and doctors are being encouraged to operate a new system where, instead of talking to a receptionist, she books a time for the doctor to phone the patient directly. The doctor discusses the patients problems firsthand ( within about 30 minutes). He then decides the urgency of the condition and either diagnoses over the phone or asks them to call in urgently, if thats required. This system apparently also reduces the number of hospital referrals and doctors can get through many more patients; who are also far more happy with their service. Takes an idiot to work out its going to be better. Apparently it needs more funding (WHY?) but it tends to prove some of the older ways are more sensible and generally 'better'. Is there anything new which can be done without more funding in the NHS??? Edited February 6, 2012 by Kes
88b
Guess it depends where you are , dentists is 500 yards from me, he's private but not much more than NHS and a real gentleman with as good as no waiting. Doctors is 400 yards the other way, never more than 24 hours to see a doctor but usually the same day. my mother in law isn't that far away in Basildon her doctors and dentist are hopeless. Fisherman Mike
Dentists....the lowest form of Human life after Estate Agents and Double Gazing Salesmen....rip off merchants the lot of them...Milk the NHS payments system...always offer you Hygene treatment and charge you £45.00 for the pleasure of showing you how to use a toothbrush.. They need much tighter regulation and a guaranteed patient quota....if they are to be primarily funded by the NHS...worse than the Bankers
ozzy518
Unfortunately I never have a problem getting an appointment. I get regular reminders when a check up is due and am not allowed to miss it. Wife is a dental receptionist On the upside, I had a real bad toothache and got seen within 10mins of making a phone call.
guest1957
I had one who wanted me to wait two weeks with a severely damaged tooth, walked out and to another one who could see me that day and never looked back. Anyone who thinks you can wait two weeks with a totally smashed up tooth can't be safe...
chandelierman
I am in Essex (Southend) I moved here from London 2yrs ago,I couldn't get nhs in London so had to go private,I have got a large gold crown that falls out every 4 or 5 years (always helped by eating toffee) it fell out last month so I had to find myself a dentist,I went to the same one my mrs goes to and they made me an appointment for the next day,I filled in a few forms and I am now getting my treatment done under the nhs,,I needed 4 fillings / x-ray etc which put me on the highest band C which was £207 which wasn't bad as my private dentist used to charge £40 for a 2min job just to stick the tooth back in,They also done me a Cerec filling which is instead of having a big silver filling they have a CAD machine which carves it out of a block of porcaline while you wait,I had 3 appointments altogether which was 1 a week, the dentist was on a main road and was always pretty empty. Zapp
I used to go to a private dentist who would try to rip me off every time for treatments and snazzy toothbrushes etc etc etc. In the end I went to a NHS dentist who is fantastic. I acknowledge of course that I have been lucky in finding one so good, many arent as lucky.
MM
Dentists....the lowest form of Human life after Estate Agents and Double Gazing Salesmen....rip off merchants the lot of them...Milk the NHS payments system...always offer you Hygene treatment and charge you £45.00 for the pleasure of showing you how to use a toothbrush.. They need much tighter regulation and a guaranteed patient quota....if they are to be primarily funded by the NHS...worse than the Bankers :good: Ill agree with that. Ive always looked after my teeth, and believe the more they get played with, the more trouble your going to have down the line. Didnt go to the dentist for about ten year, and the wife finaly dragged me. The very nice lady told me how well they looked, considering i hadnt had a check up or treatement for 10 years. I thought to myself, why should they look bad just because ive not seen a dentist for 10 years?? So, she gave me 2 very tiny fillings, (at a charge of about £30 each one), told me my teeth were in perfect condition, and said she would see me in six months. I went back 6 months later, and there was a new bloke dentist who had taken over. He took one look in my mouth and started to tell me about how i needed 3 filling, root treatment...blah blah blah... So, in 6 months, my teeth had gone from being perfect, to looking like a tray of burnt roasties. Nah, not having that pal. Ive never been back, and dont have any problems with my teeth. BenBhoy
until last week i'd not been for 16 years but i took on a 48oz steak and my teeth lost. had to phone around and find one ASAP. after couple of failed attempts found a local one taking on new NHS and she got me in next day. pulled tooth out much to my relief and all for 47 notes. i was happy with that result. PhilR
I go to a private dentist every 6 months for a check up with him and the hygienist. He's from South Africa, he's very good and into shooting so we have something to chat about whilst my mouth is full of tools . I'm lucky that in the last five years I haven't needed any additional treatment, my wife has and for what he's done she didn't think the price was excessive.
