Salop Matt
Looking at my FAC last night i notice my slot that i asked for on FAC application was for a .22LR.... How ever the slot is listed as: .22RF. Does this mean .22lr or .22WMR as both are .22 cal and rimfires ?
Stratts
I'd speak to your feo but I'd say you can get either mate. My land is all cleared as just .22 rimfire so I can use either my lr or wmr on it all
Salop Matt
Turns out your right Stratts ! I phoned and asked out of curiosity and the FLO had no idea so had to get back to me ! He said that if you have .22RF listed the you can have .22lr or .22WMR if you so wish !
apache
North Yorks do that too
cleaner4hire
West mercia did apply a similar level of common sense when I was under them 20cal, 6mm and 7mm slots for example.
Stratts
That's good then mate now the decision, lol! Depends what you want. LR to take bunnies and really close fox without making any noise, or WMR for bunnies from 30 out to 100ish yds and fox to 80 - 100 max and making a supersonic crack. Or do what I did and get both
Salop Matt
I had a .22lr once but it rapidly proved it didnt have a place in my safe so it was sold which was a real shame as loved that rifle and shot well with it ! The HMR is and was king ! How ever this means the HMR is my only FAC shooting choice currently. How ever after the recent posts and curious about a second choice in the safe ! But I doubt its worth it as they are very simlar and would offer little extra capability ! What would tempt me would be something with stunning wood and a steal of a price, but am in no rush at all ! And when i say nice wood am thinking of simlar to Neil AKA Hornet 6`s hornet or Paul AKA Shropshire lads .17HMR ! Dekers
.22RF is a generic term and SHOULD cover all .22RF. Personally I believe it is sloppy on behalf of the regions and I don't understand their logic, you may also have some issues with some RFD as well. My .22WMR lists as a .22WMR, not a .22RF, my ammo for it lists as .22WMR. BUT, both my .22lr list as .22RF and the ammo allocation lists as .22RF. So, on that basis, it appears my region don't consider a .22WMR a .22RF, Discuss!
Newsportshooter
If the FLO has put .22 RF then you can go and buy any .22RF you like (.22lr or 22WMR) - I think its down to lack of knowledge at the FLO end rather than giving a little lattitude - but either way if it says .22 RF then you can buy either. Funnily enough when I first got mine it just said .22 calibre and although I only wanted a .22lr the gun shop I went to said they would sell me a .22 Hornet if I wanted (common sense and my needs prevailed and I bought the .22lr)... If FLOs continue to be imprecise in their stipulations then it is up to you what you buy... I wouldnt imagine any RFD would refuse to sell you a .2WMR with .22RF on your ticket and I further doubt whether any RFD would refuse to sell you ammo if you bought a .22 WMR and had it on your ticket.... I don't think the .22 mag would be the bigger tool you seek :o If you are going for a big one go c/f, a .22 mag will give you nothing over the hmr you have. atvb Paul. If nearly a 100ft/lb of extra energy is nothing then I agreee Neil.
Beardo
i had .22rf and .22cf on my ticket when i first got it - i was told i could decide on the exact specifics when i found the right rifle (ie .222/.223/22-250) - once i'd made that choice and the FAC updated it would reflect that. Shropshire_Lad
If nearly a 100ft/lb of extra energy is nothing then I agreee Neil. At the ranges we shoot over Neil as you well know the .22 mag would offer nothing over his hmr, which is one of the most accurate out there in the hands of his wife to be If you have an itch by all means scratch it but I don't think this is what you realy want. atvb Paul. mark g
look salop sniper, you seem to be continually berating the westmercia firearms dept for something that you cant be ***** to apply for, i put in for a couple of calibres on august 3rd the ticket came back on october the 3rd thats 8 weeks from application to done and its not 50 quid its 26, the west mercia area covers shropshire herefordshire and worcestershire, thats a pretty big rural area and its too much for one force firearms dept to manage its too much to ask of too few staff on too big an area
Salop Matt
Mark the lead time on the paper work is terrible, this time last year the did my paperwork in 6 weeks which was great but its now slipped to 6-8months, how can anyone be happy with that, esp when we are paying for a service and not getting it ! If i was looking at 6-12 weeks then i wouldnt hesitate and would put in for the hornet but if my licence is off for 8 months then am struggling to get my HMR ammo, I can only hold 250 and buy 200 and with a forum meet coming up i could easily use 150 -250 rounds and ive also got my rabbiting to get done with that allowance untill i got my paper work back ! Yes iv had some great service from my FLO and the HQ staff but right now its very slow and unfair on us FAC holders and SGC holders esp as we are paying. How much of a rush would you be in Mark to have your ticket away for 8 months ? Some SGC grants i belive are taking even longer !
Rushjob
My certificate simply states .22 rifle.
kyska
My certificate simply states .22 rifle. Surely it must state whether its a centrefire or rimfire?? My FAC is similar to Dekers, its specifys .22wmr and wmr ammunition, along with .22lr.

That's easy to get around. Simply send in your variation paperwork along with a photocopy of your FAC and a cover note stating what you just said to us. Explain that if they ring you when they are ready to do the new print off you will have your certificate on their desk the next day without fail. I've done that with my lot a few times (you know me and variations!) and they're fine with it.
