Ackley
Yes you are missing something ! I did not get my open ticket from the initial application, it came 6 months later after I wrote to them explaining my situation it might have helped that I had been a serving police officer for 10 years and it wasn't like I was unknown to the FEO Deershooter Ahh I see,but that wasnt the question, the OP didnt ask if anyone had an open ticket from there first application he asked "if anyone got one when they first applied" IE appliying after a few months or weeks of being granted an FAC anyway matters not are you refusing to answer my question about knowing a chap called Martin

Jonno243
Has any one on here ever been granted a open certificate the first time they applied? as I dont know any one who has ,the Feo is responsible for his actions and requires you to prove yourself Deershooter Me. I was granted an open cert on first application for a personal certificate. My application was supported by proof of extensive experience with CF firearms, range officer qualifications, previous vice-captaincy of a rifle club, and the support of a local estate. bicykillgaz
so what is a good enough reason for an open cert? i was tempted to ask for one when i put in for a .22 hornet, mainly so i can go out with other people who are on closed tickets and also i get asked a lot if i can go shoot a few rabbits here and there but generally its a one off offer not a permanent permission so i decline as its would be too much hassle to go get it passed just to get rid of the odd rabbit. i also want to to ask for humane dispatch of snared fox as snaring is another avenue i am currently heading down in places where longer range shooting might not be suitable but a close range shot would be safe. i am getting rid of my shotgun certificate and getting the hornet (hopefully) so using a shotgun would not be an option. would these be good reasons to need an open ticket? atb gary Edited February 13, 2012 by bicykillgaz
39TDS
Why are you getting rid of your shotgun certificate? Only costs a tenner and doesn't affect your FAC.
bicykillgaz
Why are you getting rid of your shotgun certificate? Only costs a tenner and doesn't affect your FAC. i don't really use it any more i maybe go crow bashing once every other month, i've kept it for fox but if i get my variation for a .22 hornet which i'm putting in it will mean using it even less so i'd rather sell all my shotgun and decoy kit and carts to fund the hornet. i much prefere using rifles to shotgun anyway, i originally applied for my shotgun as a means to getting my fac, so it was more of a forced choice than a natural one. i enjoy a good day on the crows or pigeons but prefere rabbit and fox shooting and cant afford it all so something has to go. 39TDS
Fair enough. I think i would still keep the cert and maybe a cheapo gun all the same. Each to their own.

Each to their own. it did cross my mind just to get a little single .410 or something but i just can't see me bothering, i decided if i get some more land where i would need a shotgun for crop protection i'd just apply for an fac shotgun and have a 5 shot pump. Dekers
I have and welshwarrior has from this thread alone! It isn't impossible, mine also had a CF on it as well! As I said above..... ... Getting an unrestricted FAC on first grant is getting harder, but not impossible, there are situations, circumstances, areas and reasons! Dekers, Was yours issued open because of your employment? That "may" well have been something to do with it, but there were potentially other factors as well, the answer really is I don't know, but I asked for an unrestricted FAC on First Grant and got it! Like I said.... Getting an unrestricted FAC on first grant is getting harder, but not impossible, there are situations, circumstances, areas and reasons! buckaroo23
I was refused an open ticket, the FAO said shouldn't be a problem. But the chief constable said NO, as I didn't have letters to back up my reasons,so I've got to speak a few farmers see if they will write a letter saying I can shoot on there land as long as I have an open ticket this is a lot harder I'm also getting a friend to write a letter to saying that I go out with him and can't shoot always holding the lamp

Yea, makes sense, although it shouldn't have anything to do with it, I thought that they may take into account that you would be unable to work effectively without a open cert. swiss.tony
Its more of a lottory with different forces haveing different rules and codes of practice if you only have 1 or 2 bits of land that have bin passed all ready you dont need open ticket. I had 7 farms and 4000 mixed 22 ...17 rounds under my belt after 8 months of FAC and they said no wait 5 years yer ok i think not...went out hunting more land 3 farms later asked again over phone got hold of boss after lasses on desk were next to useless he said send your ticket in and will open it up no problems.. SO that was 1 month from last time i asked wats changed not much so 10 farms in 4000 bullets and 30 phones calls 3 letters seamed to do the trick for me with south yorkshire police swiss
gunner269
Apparently, North Yorkshire give open tickets on first application as they don't have many FEOs. I shoot in N Yorks, but live in W. Yorks and they are very reluctant to give open tickets on first application, they usually stipulate 18 months.
