elgreco
Aldi are selling rubber backed carpet runners for £1.99 I cut one down to 15" wide and about 50" long and it is an ideal gun cleaning mat! Cheap as chips :-) Cheers Tom
dan-250
I just put a carrier bag over the end of the barrels with an elastic band, and scrub away , any oil, bore cleaned, or spray just drips in there, or flicked of the bronze brush, no mess and straight in the bin after. Good tip I've usually tried to 'aim' at a square of kitchen roll on the kitchen floor, but I'll deffo give this a go.

Bloody good idea, twenty odd years of making a mess and I have never thought about doing that. Will do from now on, cracker of a tip. Yes a brilliant idea The only thing I would be careful of is using particularly 'strong' cleaners as it could splash back over the end of the barrel and damage the blueing if allowed too longer contact. I certainly lost the blueing off the crown of my Remington 700 varmint after allowing the copper remover to accumulate there during a particularly difficult time getting the excessive deposit out. dan-250
If you go to quick it sucks the bag up the barrels or if your going a bit mad, you can go through it. It's only on for a matter of a few mins tops, I use the bisley bore cleaner or wd40 and it's never effected the blueing. Oily rag, patches go in the bag tie it up, No smell when it's in the bin either then Edit: check the bag, some carriers have holes in the bottom Edited February 15, 2012 by dan-
Bloke
I use one of the smaller ziploc sandwich bags, more manageable than a gurt big carrier, and reusable- about 70P for a packet at any superstore jobby. Just put one or two sheets of kitchen roll in and it stops any leakage and mops up, just sling the sheet after cleaning, put a fresh one in the bag and wrap round with the elastic band and its ready for the next time. Of course if you are using some of the more nasty solvents thats different, but for everyday Legia/WD40 users, you don't need to sling the bag every time. I also store my PB brush and my 'dirty' mop in one of these, keeps my kit bag clean between washes (Unless you clean all your brushes/mops every time, in which case you have too much time on your hands ) Edited February 15, 2012 by Bloke
