Salop Matt
As above: Will break cleaner damage bluing or disolve varnish or paint? Edited March 13, 2012 by salop sniper
seeker
can't comment on paint or varnish but it didn't harm the blue and worked on the carbon when we should and older gun that needed more than TIC. Similar to GM Tec www.6mmbr.com/borecleaning.html
bedwards1966
I've used it on blued barrels to remove oil/grease before touching up the blueing, it hasn't affected it - though in case I'm wrong I wouldn't want to leave it on an expensive gun for any length of time as it is powerful stuff. I don't think paint would be affected, probably not varnish either but I wouldn't really want to chance it, I'd look for something a bit kinder to use! Andy H
Brake cleaner will not damage your blueing but say goodbye to any paint/varnish or oil finish it can contain some very toxic chemicals. Acetone Solvent Naphtha (Petroleum), Light Aliphatic Propane Xylene Ethylbenzene Toluene Benzene
P~MX
I use it on my Perazzi and it's never did it any harm !
Hornet 6
Safe on the metal work, not on plastic (magazine well) or wood. Neil.
coyotemaster
Brake cleaner will not damage your blueing but say goodbye to any paint/varnish or oil finish it can contain some very toxic chemicals. Acetone Solvent Naphtha (Petroleum), Light Aliphatic Propane Xylene Ethylbenzene Toluene Benzene I am not sure about the bluing or varnish but it most likely isn't beneficial to the user. At least 4 of the 8 listed above are linked to cancer. If I were going to use it, it would be outdoors with full protection
