-oXo-
If it is insured I believe you can drive it to the MOT station and home as long as it is BOOKED in. Just what someone told me and I have always done it, try phoning the MOT station they will be alot more clued up.

bedwards1966
As long as it's insured and the MOT is pre-booked and the garage can confirm that if plod pulls you up then you do not need tax or MOT to take it to or from the test. SakoQuad
Here is a question for you all had the vitara of road while I was out of work, as some know I found my ideal job and now want to get it back on road it is sorn of road if I book it in for the mot can I drive it shortest route with out tax I'll have to insure it first ,is it best to tell plod wot I'm doing cheers all I can tell you with great authority having fetched up in court in 1975 charged with non payment of road tax! Like you car off road for a period. Got it insured, booked it in for MOT on last day of the month, got stopped by police en route - explained position - went on way. Car passed MOT, taxed car the next day from first of the month. A while later got letter to appear in court for tax non payment. Pleaded not guilty on grounds I couldn't get car taxed without MOT couldn't get car to MOT without tax. Magistrates confused - agreed with me it was clearly a nonsense - thought I was onto a winner till Court Clerk pointed out I had driven the car in March, taxed it from April - should have paid tax from 1st March would then have been no problem. Found guilty by sympathetic Magistrates, fined nominal amount and had to pay 1 months road fund license. Lesson you will have no problems as long as you tax the car for the month in which you drive it to get the MOT!
Lister
Try find a garage that will pick up and return your vehicle after the MOT. That's what I will do when I need to MOT one of my cars that is sorned. Edited April 8, 2012 by Lister
Vince Green
If they got stopped they could quite easily get nicked, you're supposed to book an MOT at the nearest test station from your home. We used to buy vans at Merthyr car auctions and drive them to London on the basis of a pre booked MOT appointment to cover the no tax. Nearest MOT test station to your home is no problem - it was, and they did go in for an MOT as soon as they arrived.
