Keeperchris
Hey all, am after a decent cheap pair of binoculars for stalking. Am looking at the bushnell h20 in 8x42 or hawke in the same magnification. Both are around the £100 mark. Anyone got any experience with them? Or suggest something else?? I can't afford anything better spent all of last shooting seasons tokens on a Schmidt and Bender scope!! Cheers Chris

russ91
Don't skimp on the bino's what's point in having a good stalking rifle n scope if you can't glass your target first
Alycidon
Don't skimp on the bino's what's point in having a good stalking rifle n scope if you can't glass your target first Agreed. In wet weather cheap ones may mist up rendering them useless. By all means buy cheap for now, higher quality used would be a better buy than lower quality new but look to trade up when you are able. 7x42s are excellent for the job. Keeperchris
Cheers Guys, I agree I need to spend as much as I can. But £100ish is all I have at the moment the Bushnell are anti fog and waterproof so I have hopefully overcome that issue with them. I have managed for 10 years now with a really pants pair, so anything better will be a bonus. Cheers Chris
Gimlet
Just a thought, if you've got very little money to spend avoid roof prism binoculars - the kind with the straight tubes which have become the universal design for hunters. This design is more expensive to manufacture and cheap ones always come at the expense of optical quality. You might get more for your money if you stick to the old style bins (I forget the technical term for them) which have the dog-leg tubes. I used a pair of Bushnell 'Birding series' 10X42s for years and to be honest none of the numerous cheap roof prism bins I tried were as good either for clarity or light gathering. They may not look the part but its what you can see through them that matters.

Dunkield
Chris, don't rule out secondhand bins from shops like London Camera Exchange. Or some Zeiss Jena's off eBay? As stated above Opticrons are good vfm.
malkiserow
This is an excellent company to deal with. They will not negotiate but have some cracking deals. I used them for my bins Check out their ex demo pages.... http://www.sherwoods-photo.com/ex_demo/ex_demo_optics.htm
