Hi,

maybe you could help me with some info ! my younger brother died 2 weeks ago tomorrow and we're tryin to move some of his gear on as we've no room for it,he was into bow hunting/target shootin, where could we try to sell his bow that wouldn't get us into bother ? knowin my brother his bow wasn't a cheap one but at the minute I don't know much about it although I could take pics of it if that would help some of you guys to recognise it and maybe put a value to it !

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated :good:

Archerytalk is the biggest in the US and I think there are some UK subforums. I think I remember some guys on there from the UK who were field target shooters.

Also put the info on here. There should be enough people here who shoot that can at least help you ID everything and get rough values.

Thanks,

Rick

Ring aardvark in leeds or custom built archery in newark to get an idea or just put it on ebay. If you have any technical questions i can help you out with answers, there are no legal restraints on selling them as long as there are no broadhead arrows.

Hi

What legal restraints are there on broadhads apart from hunting with them

I was told that they were classified under the 'edged weapons' rulings, in that they are effectively a fixed, exposed blade. Dunno whether that is correct or not, but it sounds as likely as anything, after all, a Broadhead has as long an edge as a box-cutter/'stanley' knife.

Very sorry to hear of your loss.

Probably not much help but There is an archery club in Newtownards, they use or at least used to use Ards rugby clubs pitches for practice.

Plenty of clubs listed here in county Down

And Ards club

I'll stand to be corected but I don't think there are any actual restrictions on selling or possessing broad-head arrows. I think there may be something if you are selling by way of trade (as a business) and I also think there may be something about imort/export but I'm fairly certain there isn't anything which applies to private indivisuals.

This is a copy of a post that I made in another thread. I thought that it would be relevant to this discussion so have repeated it here.

Broadheads are perfectly legal to buy, possess and shoot within the U.K. - whilst observing the prohibition on taking quarry with a bow, as laid out in the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

http://www.legislati...1/69/section/11

Broadheads are not featured in the The Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order 1988 - only these items (barring other specifics relating to firearms legislation) are forbidden to buy or sell in the U.K.

http://www.legislati...9/schedule/made

The 2008 amendment order to the act brought new legislation to limit the proliferation of cheaply made replica samurai swords - but again, makes no mention of broadheads.

I've got some details for this bow if anyone would know anything about it or it's value I'd be very grateful

it's a Reflex - Game Getter, it's got sights on it too, it comes with 8/10 arrows, arrow case, a hard Flambeau case and a soft carry protection case .

Hi mate.

Reflex game getter is a hunting compound bow and is pretty rare outside of the states...I believe that they were made by Hoyt which is one of the top bow manufacturers.

I cannot find any information from any uk sources on prices, only used prices from the US which seem to be between $125 and $175. Unfortunately the problem with compound bows in the UK is that you can't hunt with them which is what this bow is for - short range hunting - and to shoot competitively a compound bow has to be incredibly accurate and very quickly gets superseded by a newer more accurate bow with new technology.

This may mean it is worth a lot less than you would hope. It is only my opinion but you would do well to get £100 on a well known auction site.

I hope that is of some help.

Anthony

hi Anthony, Thanks for your help, we had no idea what it was all worth but now we've an idea how much sell it for - If we can get £150 for everything we'd be happy enough ! anyone interested PM me with your email and I'll send you some pictures. It's all in very very good condition and I couldn't see anyone being disappointed with the whole package .
