Thread size

How do u find out what thread size is on a rifle.

To be honest, if you need to ask it's probably fair to say that you haven't got the necessary kit (simple as it is - if you know) to measure it. So half decent RFD or gunsmith. I wouldn't rely too much on someone saying, "see if mine fits, I know it's 1/2" UNF", or whatever.

Measure the width and then count the threads. If it's ½” wide and there are 10 threads per ½” of length then it's ½” UNF if there are 14 threads per ½“ of length then it's ½” UNEF.

If it's bigger than that, then take it to a gunsmith and ask because there are a plethora of sizes to chose from these-days

Unless it's metric.

Get an engineer or Gunsmith to look at it.

Read it again.

Because he won't have a full inch of thread to measure I said it was 10 threads per HALF inch UNF and 14 threads per HALF inch UNEF.

I bought the rifle second hand but its a tikka t3 are they all factory screwcut? Im going to a rfd on fri im going to buy a new mod instead of second hand. Are the jet z compact any good?

If it's a Tikka T3, then the thread will be 1/2" UNF. Unless someone has had a different thread made for it, which is probably very unlikely.
