cocker3
well where do i start i went out last night after a farmer i shoot for had said he had seen alot of roe round his rape fields i arrived at 7pm and went for a walk round the rape fields at the back of his house 2 fields in total . i was half way round the second field when i came across the tell tail signs that a fox set was close now the farmer has about 20 chickens and they are his kids pride and joy so this had to get sorted quickly. i got set up about 150 yards down wind of the set and within 5 minutes 2 cubs popped out the grass and proceeded to fight on the edge of the field i would have liked the vixen and dog first so sat till almost dark but they never showed to took the cubs 7 in total but no dog or vixen . so tonight i was set to go back and see if i could get the dog or vixen in the lamp on they way out the door at 630pm the wife asked if i could get a small roe for the fridge if i had time .so went for a roe first then would have a lamp once it was dark .i had seen plenty bucks 5 in total but all were big buck 3 will be medals and time was getting on so i went to have a look at a rape field i know there a roe round and set up at the top of the field when a yearling jumped out of the hedge about 70 yards away and started to feed on the hedge for 10 minutes he would not offer a good shot and then he turned broadside and i took the shot to see him drop on the spot one job done. at 10pm i went back to the set where i had shot the cubs the night before and put the lamp on and had a quick look across the field of wheat thats next to the rape and there 150 yards away was a fox crossing the field left to right a quick set up and dropped it as it made its way to the woods edge i thought i could see sumthing in its mouth and when i walked out to it sure enough there was a cub sitting next to the now dead vixen so i had to deal with that too .she must have been moving it once it got dark to a set on the other side of this wood thats been cleaned out recently so 8 cubs and a vixen gone i know some will take a dim view about shooting cubs but it had to be done just need to get the dog now a doe spring out of the hedge on me the young buck was just at the brake in the hedge in the dip of the field next weeks dinner Edited May 6, 2012 by cocker3
moor man
Good job done and good shooting, shot a young buck this morning clean of velvet, red summer coat showing in patches, bit ahead in Devon I suppose. Had some fun stalking in on a doe and old buck, just for fun. He was clever though and dissapeared with no trace, she was young and inquisitive and kept coming back for another look. What calibre u using? Nice pics cocker, thanks. Edited May 6, 2012 by moor man
