super sharp shooter
I have entered a shooting and fishing competition this Sunday. So my question is about the trout fishing. Should I use dry or wet flies on the trout.
oscarsdad
Try a combination...if there are stock fish then lures probably the most effective. Conditions will dictate method and flies.
P~MX
I would suggest that at this time of year as it's still very cold to use small gold heads, like hare's ears, damsel fly etc, there will most likely be no fly life on the top of the water due to the cold so fish a couple of feet deep and even deeper if you can't find them, use a long leader 1.5 times the length of your rod if needed, lures are a good bet like catswhiskers, Montana nymphs, ace of spades, or anything orange or green with a gold head. try speedin up and slowin down your retrieves to entice the fish into a take
casts_by_fly
What lake? If i were in a competition likewhat you are describing, i would plan to fish lures and fish fast. I am guessing there is a short time limit on fishing, not a full day affair, so finding active fish and working for just the active fish might be your best bet. Dunkield
Damsel weighted on floating line or unweighted on an intermediate - you will clean up (if it wasn't the fact most others will be doing the same )

Outlander
If you can get details of where you are going I might be able to help as I do a bit of trouting from time to time! Outlander.
ack-ack
Its all about the boobies down my way. I always have trouble casting them as they tend to spin and wind up the leader. My results are shockingly bad of late, though last week at Bewl I caught a 41 pound Perch. Had I gone for the two fish ticket it would only have been a 38 pound Perch
