PERCE
A less tongue in cheek reply would be to have a look at what other peoples dogs do & judge for yourself, have you not considered a labrador?
Cockermax
Propably, the first question to ask is have you ever trained a working spaniel before or what is your experience. If you have never trained a gundog before can be a steep learning curve.
Actionpigeons
dont have a clue about the differences and would like to know which is better for me i do mostly rough shooting and pigeons/shooting from a hide and the odd bit of driven shooting Springer or Cocker, now that is a loaded question. They both have their fans and both do the same type of work. If you went back 25 years or so you would of struggled to find a good working Cocker. A lot of people have worked with the breed and some are now beating Springer in trials, and nowerdays both are as good as each other. It is now just down to a personal choice of which dog you like the look of, however if you want a working dog always go for a dog with a working K.C. reg As for remark “have you not considered a labrador” a labrador is a very diferent animal bred to do a diffrent job. Have a think what type of shooting you do most and get the dog that works for you. Edited May 25, 2012 by Actionpigeons

Gun & Dog
I wouldn't have thought a Cocker was the dog to have if you want a dog that sits in a hide, not fair to the dog. As previously mentioned have a look at a Lab. Go and do your homework!
