apache
You can shoot foxes with a shotgun. So long as you have permission to shoot. The only time you could find yourself in bother is if you shot and injured one, there may be a case against you for causing unnecessary suffering. kent
I shouln't fret, for a case of unnessasary suffering you would need to be at the extreame end of things like using an airgun. a decent 12 bore and shot size 3 or larger will do a stirling job provided you dont get silly with the ranges
bedwards1966
Yes it's legal, it's quite commonly done. No. 3 shot is ideal, in a 3 inch cartridge if your gun is chambered for it, keep the range short (within approximately 40 yards).

There are NO legal minimum calibres/energy/ammo types on ANY guns for shooting fox. What you have is a raft of Cruelty legislation to potentially contend with. karpman
A decent load at sensible ranges, I try to stay below 30yrds drops em dead no messing, and is the tool for sometimes when rifles can't be used for various reasons. I like 42grms of no 1. Karpman

Doesnt bother me in the slightest and people will shoot fox with .22lr and unconditioned .17HMR all the time

I also think if you shot a fox with a .22/.17 that was only conditioned for 'vermin' and ended up in court by an overzealous policeman then a decent lawyer could easily prove that included foxes, despite the police liking to list it separately. That's why basc put the advice in their magazine saying foxes are vermin. I've now just got pest control on everything covers most things IMHO
