Longy0710
Well having shot plenty of clays since getting my SGC I felt it time to put my practice to the test and get a days pigeon shooting booked. After speaking to a few guys on here I booked a day with John Dandy of ActionPigeons. The day was booked and it was fingers crossed for nice weather. Wednesday came and there was a light breeze blowing and no rain! Result! A short 40 minute drive to Johns followed where he greeted me. No time was wasted and me and Jenna the lab were into the 4x4 & off we went to the spot for the day. I need to take this moment to say that we went past alot of Johns permissions that were close to his home and he could have set us up on there and it would have been a doddle for him but no, we went to a farm around 35mins away. On getting out the drizzle had started slightly and our spot for the day looked good as a few pigeons flitted overhead as we built the hide and put the decoys out. John was a constant source of knowledge and the things I learnt would have taken years of shooting to establish. The mornings shooting was very hit and miss (more miss in my case) with John tweaking the pattern to try and make the birds easier for me to hit. I was missing plenty and John helped me with a few pointers on my gun mount. He wanted me to build my confidence so, rather than me continue to miss and lose confidence we packed up and moved to a wheat field on the other side of the farm, another guide could well have kept me where I was as he was putting birds over me but John was determined to get me dropping birds consistantly. After setting up on the wheat my shooting improved as the birds came into the pattern so much better, Jenna picking every bird shot and working really well (she is a credit to John). It was by far my best ever day out shooting, the enviroment, the shooting and all the tips I learnt off John made the day so worth while and I would recommend him to anyone, especially if like me you struggle for pigeon permission. I ended the day with 22 pigeons picked and 3 lost in the first thick rape field. I am already booking another day with him for when the crop comes off and also a days hawking for the winter. Not the biggest bag ever but my best by a mile and well worth the money!!! Pic of me, my remington 11-87 and Jenna Thanks Longy
