rapid12
hi all, i am lucky enough to have dropped on a cottage in the middle of the land i shoot that my landowner owns the down side is that my gun cabinet will be installed in the cellar where it is slightly damp. I intend to raise the cabinet up off the floor by 6" or so with a rubber lining between the blocks, i will also buy some silica gel packs for the cabinet. The guns will be used almost daily so i will inspect regular. Shall i leave them in there bags too? Any other tips would be gladly accepted. chee
bi9johnny
i would put a piece of steel in there to test it first best of luck regards john
Al69ec
Damp will still get in round the door, I used to use the sticky window draft strip on the inside of the door frame, that works a treat and put silicone or rubber washers round the bolts pre mounting. HDAV
VP90 + a reptile heat pad and if you can insulate the cabinet from the wall, anything cloth is likely to trap damp. Is there no way cabinet could not go in a bedroom or similar? With rural properties especially old ones they are a bit more flexible on location I have seen them in dining rooms next to the dresser... Gerry31
I invested in a damp chaser from the auction site about 40 quid they are designed to go inside pianos but work brilliantly in gun cabs.

Scully
I always leave mine in gun slips in the safe , why wouldn't you If your slip gets damp for whatever reason, and you then put your gun in it,and leave it in,it will rust your gun rapidly. matone
If your slip gets damp for whatever reason, and you then put your gun in it,and leave it in,it will rust your gun rapidly. Exactly, even a slip which appears dry may hold enough moisture to cause rusting in a much shorter time than you may think. Anything that restricts airflow is a friend of rust.
