SPARKIE
has anyone else struggled to get damsons this year ? as its been a very bad harvest for them nr me this year......I have plenty of sloe's which will be ready to pick soon but im looking to make some damson gin too. If anyone can point me in the direction of a supplier of damsons frozen or fresh that deliver or anyone close by that has some they dont mind sharing that would be great. sparkie
Tim Kelly
Such a glut of them last year that it seems to have swung the opposite way this year.
kent
heck we still have a glut in the freezer from last year but this years a flop, same with the plumbs. Some trees have a year off following a big crop. although last year was great for plumbs and damsons the apples didn't produce- this year however............ Cottonseed
Last year we had 12 boxes of damsons, this year barely enough to make a damson crumble. All our five other sorts of plums have failed too and apples are down as well. Fruit trees do go in cycles, but this year I've heard of so many trees lacking fruit that it must be down to the wet, cold nights we had at blossom time--not to mention the bloody wind. Marc Z
I've got a lovely sloe tree in my front garden, last year got about 10 pints of big fat fruits from it. Really glad I froze half as this year there's about a pint on it!
welshwarrior
My folks have alias this year they have had enough and they thin down the number of trees this winter. What do you make with them?
activeviii
its been cr4p on all the fruit this year. almost like its been to wet for the bee's to get the job done. I have some from last year for the gin but thats about it.
henry d
Not many Damsons in this area, however there seems to be quite a few cherry plums both here and in the NE of England too. That was batch 2 and batch 3 was just put away yesterday
