Anth6568
Just recieved my FAC with a .243 on it. 😃  On my return from Afgan next spring I'm looking to start up deer shooting and follow onto boar in the UK.  I'm looking around now for possible permission in North Yorkshire for next year. (both deer & boar) I understand that there is boar in North Yorkshire?  Just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction or come along for some experience to learn the ropes?  I have some experience shooting Deer and Zebra In Africa but I haven't tried it in this country. Most of my shooting time is spent wildfowling, rough shooting and vermin control.  I would be very grateful of any help.  Regards  Ant
kent
Its quite difficult and overly expensive to get UK boar. To be fair its cheaper to go to mainland Europe and the established ground there, our Boar are basically thin on the ground and closely guarded by those that have access to them in any number
Anth6568
Thanks Kent  When I do decide to take the leap forward towards Boar I will need to apply for and extra caliber on my FAC as .243 is not suitable (from advice from the FAC officer)  What caliber would you recommend? And also possible rifle and sight combo.  I have seen various from .308 to 9.3mm in calibers and low mag scopes to red dot sights.  Regards  Ant
kent
A non military one as the French can have issues about this. anything over .270 win is recomended though forget the 30-06 they still see it as military over there i belive

yds
As far as I am aware the boar hunting/shooting offered in nth yorks is a sham, they are penned up. See colin lockerbie in dumfrees for pig shooting. Or come on one of my hunts to scandanavia and do it under the moon on snow. Proper hunting NO NV. For roe stalking I am a guide in the area and full time taking 200 clients out a year on some 400 outings. Regards john Driven. Â A client Ambushed this under moon in sweden.
