Fisherman Mike
very early...sure it wasnt starlings ? Sorry dont disbelieve you but October is the norm for the Scandinavian thrushes. Might have been Mistle thrushes they often form small flocks in August and September. If the Scandinavian thrushes are early is nearly always the sign of a bad winter ahead. Better get some logs flour and sugar in...( and Beer) Edited September 4, 2012 by Fisherman Mike
Reece
I remember seeing a flock of some birds quite a while ago, back in early August I think, that someone said were Fieldfares. If October is the norm, I'm having my doubts.

Ferret Master
My money is on Mistle Thrushes this time of year. We often get small flocks of them squabbling in a Yew at the back of my house. FM

39TDS
Thought I saw some recently. Must admit it didn't really register that it was a bit early. I have orchards and they are full of them most winters. Winter before last they chose the maize stubble up the lane over my offerings. Vince Green
Fieldfare, that expression takes me right back, I haven't heard it for years. Lovely
JDog
The earliest I have ever seen Fieldfares was in the first week in October and on the same day I saw Swallows and a Red Admiral butterfly. An unusual combination.
