rodney
Dave, who I shoot with shot this woodie today. It had an unusual growth on its breast which, spilled the contents of its crop. Apart from the growth it seemed ok and not out of condition, although It smelt minging!! Any ideas what it could be?
aga man
i would guess it's an old wound possibly from an air rifle pellet. looks like it never healed properrly. just my guess. unsual to see, that's for sure.

JDog
It does look like an old pellet wound or similar. That poor bird will have had to eat so much more than normal if part of the contents of it's crop kept falling out as seems likely.
fenboy
Christ , it would need to be some airgun pellet to leave a hole like that !. I would say its crop has been diseased or infected ( if a infection it could have been caused by a pellet from shotgun or air rifle) I shot one like that myself a few years ago , thought i had done it a big favour.
