oscarsdad
I fully stripped and cleaned my maxus yesterday as it was filthy and I just use kitchen towel and gun oil, with a toothbrush for fiddly bits and a phosphor bronze barrel brush on the really awkward bits on the outside of the magazine tube. It is now spotless and it the boot of the car now about to go and get dirty again!

kent
Anything that can be removed as a small part can soak in meths overnight and then get a scrub. The bits that are too large etc just spray with a little Browning oil and rub with a green washing up sponge
sitsinhedges
I ended up getting some Youngs 303 from the gunshop but it was rubbish to be honest. Ballistol has been recommended so I'll get a can of that for next time. In about 6 months
Albert 888
Hot water and fairy liquid doesnt work. Nor does loctite super clean wd40 legida. I use a well used green part of the sponge on mag tube. May try petrol meths or diesel for the piston.
sitsinhedges
Was talking to a friend today who reckons they use caustic soda to clean the carbon from the F1 racing engines he builds. Didn't fancy risking that on my blueing though
pigeon pete
i use the spray on brake cleaner every 6 months or so for a really thorough clean same here but make sure you don't spray it on any plastic parts like cart follower ect
Gregthegreat
I use OX24 weapons oil from work on all my guns including my AL391. Spray it on and leave for a bit to soften the carbon. Scratch the worst of it off then use brass and steel brushes (depending on the metal surface) to remove any remaining deposits. OX24 is the standard weapon oil in the military. I'm guessing here but it must be available to the civvie market.

coyotemaster
A scotchbrite dish scrubbing pad is all I use and it won't harm you or the finish on the gun. You DO need to exercise some restraint when spraying chemicals on the gun as has been stated they can ruin the finish and are pretty hard on your kidneys and pancreas.
