Cleaning an auto, carbon deposits?

I fully stripped and cleaned my maxus yesterday as it was filthy and I just use kitchen towel and gun oil, with a toothbrush for fiddly bits and a phosphor bronze barrel brush on the really awkward bits on the outside of the magazine tube. It is now spotless and it the boot of the car now about to go and get dirty again!

I use OX24 weapons oil from work on all my guns including my AL391. Spray it on and leave for a bit to soften the carbon. Scratch the worst of it off then use brass and steel brushes (depending on the metal surface) to remove any remaining deposits.

OX24 is the standard weapon oil in the military. I'm guessing here but it must be available to the civvie market.
