Well after the weather being to wet and windy my first nght off, i decided that i had to get out wednesday. So a call to the farmer, who i noticed had harvested the wheat over the week end but not managed to get all the straw bailed and also left some bails out due to the weather. The OK was given to get on the fields so get the gear sorted.

MP3 player charged up, check the battery's for the lamps,,bullets, bolt, rifle all sorted boots on and out for 20.20. I manage to just get off the road with the pickup, i think another foot further i would be down a 1ft drop not even my nobblies cold manage to get up that  ,anyway get the stuff out, pick a bail to get set up on about 50yds in, another one further out for the caller a further 70 or so out, switch on play list 1 choose random then back to see what comes in.

Back with the rifle, load up the mag with 5 of the best, one up the spout, lamp at the ready and a can of Coke opened ready for the thirsty work ahead :drinks: .

Well as it goes, not long for the first pair of eyes, but not easy, slightly down the hill and managing to get cover behind the rows of straw thats been left due to the bad weather. Its about 18" to 24" high so Mr Fox is lucky for a while, every now and again i can see eyes, stopping what seem to be looking through the straw, just twinkles.

A little further on heading to the call it stops its head was "just" visible over the row of straw the rest of its body covered by the defence walls. Its head was the target though this time not the bib, it should not have looked, it was too late i had all ready sent Nosler on the way, at 3800 fps it didnt take long before it had reached its intended obsticle. Job Done. :good::drinks: .

That was number 1.

The 2nd.

Well a bit of a suprise, i had a quick glance behind me and, well only 70 odd yds sitting there was a Fox, stuff you, theres no chance of getting a swig of Coke, No chance of getting a shot on that one any movement to take a shot it wasnt going to stop, which it didnt. The thing was i was standing between it and the caller, and the Fox wanted toget to the caller to eat whatever was making that irristable noise. So it had to go around i followed it as best as i could through the rows of straw until it hesitated to check it was clear to come over the defence walls, it had to raise its head for a peep, that was enough, another Nosler sent on the way, the unmistakeable crack of contact. Another one Job Done :good::drinks: , should have took more cans out with me.

The 3rd.

Thinking of packing up as it was now getting late 22.20  , to be honest a pint on the way home would be nice. thought i would give it a few minutes and forget the pint.

So i go to pick up the first 2, both out at between 170 and 200yds, i take the lamp pick up the 2 and on the way back spot a fox under the caller, dam nations and all other words came into my head, no rifle and another 150 yds to get to it. I though stuff it, it knows i am here so just walk back as per normal,if its there then good if its gone then i'll be back another night. Well get back to the bail and replace the bolt !!! which i took with me :P ( i know what some folk are like on here) and the sill fox was just too interested in that cheap £25 caller it just could not tear itself away, it did run off but only a further 50yrds or so down under the hedge line, sat and waited, But i am afraid not for too long, another Nosler was on its mission.

3 Fox's and a couple of hrs on the field. I was happy :good: :good:
