Mikaveli
I've been considering getting a 'tactical' looking .22lr, purely because I want a semi and like the look. My main concern is accuracy, as i've heard (and seen) a lot of poor accuracy from them. I'm only going to be using the gun for informal target shooting at 25 and 50m. I don't need something that puts each round through the same hole, but do want something at least capable of making a cloverleaf at 50m (assuming I'm doing things right). I've seen people with gsg's making 3" or bigger groups at that range. If that's the best I could expect, I'd rather stick to a bolt action - or is that just a symptom of the cheaper end guns? I've read some good things about the sig sauer 522 - would it be up to the job? My budget would be up to a grand, excluding scope, for something good enough. Imperfection
A friend of mine uses the Smith and Wesson M&P for bunnies and plinking and is pretty accurate too. Its only real hinderence is the barrel which has an odd thread and requires a specialist sound moderator to fit.

I'll only be using it on the range, so I won't need a moderator. Did he ever bench shoot it to get an idea about accuracy on paper?
wildfowler.250
Not tactical but a CZ 511 gets my vote
Imperfection
At 50m they're all within an inch or so and thats with Mini-mags off a bipod. You might get it a wee bit tighter with better ammo though.
coyotemaster
Depends on your needs and style , a Ruger 10/22 can be customized quite a bit with different stocks and aftermarket barrels, most will shoot up to your needs with a custom aftermarket barre ie. Green Mountain, Shilen etc. With a good trigger job and a decent scope you could be well under a grand with a hummer of a .22.

I have the same, but the Performance Centre model which is pretty damm accurate to be fair. The barrel is a Walther match grade one and the trigger is a match one. I agree that the thread on the barrel is odd (being American) as it is 1/2" x 28 UNEF. You can get moderators to suit, but I decided to have the barrel slightly shortened and then re-threaded in 1/2" x 20 UNF. This way I can swap moderators between my various rifles as all will have the same thread. Hope this helps.
