Cartridge and choke

I'm on my first driven day on friday. I have never changed my chokes but due to my over excitment of cleaning and oiling I took mine out. I have now got the 1/2 in my bottom barrel and the 1/4 in my top with the selector on bottom barell first. I reasoned that on incoming birds only I'd want a tighter pattern for my first shot followed up with the more open second barrel for a follow up shot.

Does this make sense?

Why not just keep the tighter choke in your top barrel and use the selector as you need it?

It's perfectly understandable as a beginner to driven shooting to be anxious about cartridge, choke etc,but believe me;forget about choke and concentrate on enjoying yourself. If you miss,it wont be because you have in the wrong chokes.Sweeeeeep your muzzles through the birds like you're painting a wall, and enjoy yourself.
