njc110381
I just got a letter through from my local station, from what I can make of it things are looking ok so far. It says:- "Your recent application submitted in relation to firearms and/or explosives matters has been received by this department and will receive attention. You may recall the letter sent withthe application advised that enquiries would be commenced once this office was in receipt of the completed application. On conclusion of our administrative enquiries the next stage of the process is to forward your application to the FEO, for the area in which you reside, who will contact you to arrange a visit to discuss the application in full." I'm quite happy about this. I take it that it means I have been considered for a certificate and I have passed the first stage? Promising to me as the only thing I can see they would turn me down for is my explosives charge, which if it was that bad, would have got me a refusal letter? Not there yet, but getting closer I feel! What do you guys make of it?
kip270
Just means your local Firearms officer will be calling round for a face to face interview and to check through your application and to see where you intend to put your cabinet and to check your home security
Cranfield
To me that letter means that they are acknowledging receipt of your application and their investigations into you begin now. Good luck.
njc110381
"On conclusion of our administrative enquiries the next stage of the process is to forward your application to the FEO"..............Does that not mean that they have at least looked into my record, so they could turn me down if I was a complete joker? To save the FEO a trip?
dazza
If it's the same as over here it just means an admin assistant has opened it, checked it's all there and will be passing it onto the FEO, as cranfield says the real processing starts now

To save the FEO a trip? He's the man that can YES or NO, but he still needs to see you and make sure you are of sound mind Don't panic, as long as you put everything on your application there should be no problems. They had it on record from when i was 17 and got done for stealing from where i used to work , so make sure you put everything down.
Cranfield
Possibly, or it could mean that they have checked that you have filled the forms in correctly. No two police Forces seem to be the same. The visit is the important bit.

njc110381
I'm sure it should be ok. I was good before, unintentional during, and good again after my offence. They should be able to see I'm a genuine bloke who made a mistake. I've heard of a lot of people that have had more intent of causing harm or damage at the time of their crime being given licenses, so I won't be happy if my one slip up stops me having one! It was almost an accident after all, I just got hammered with political ******** because of the media making such a fuss. Britain all over isn't it! Yorkshire Pudding
Don't worry about your offence at work . I too had a record, which was for a drugs offence at 17 . When the firearms officer came round he asked me about it . I told him the truth that i got caught with a 1/4 of cannabis , and at the time of the offence i thought it was a cool thing to do . Got my shotgun license no problems . all the best yis yp

njc110381
To be honest, this application is driving me mad! I really don't know how the FEO is going to look at it. I know myself that I am perfectly safe and responsible with a gun, but I need to prove it to a bloke who has never met me before, and has a a lot of pressure on him to get it right. Could be hard. I wish he was a mind reader, I'd be fine then!

Cranfield
If you got a community service sentence, then it was hardly the crime of the century, so relax a little. Seven years is also a long time ago. When the FLO comes, make an effort, a bit like going to a job interview. Don't withold any information, as he will probably know the answers to most of the questions he asks you.
pin
You will drive yourself nuts trying to guess and second guess. Most of us know what its like waiting to hear about a cert, its on your mind and its hard to get it out of your head. Take it from me its not healthy to keep thinking about it, go do something else to keep yourself occupied until the visit. Just keep in your head the knowledge that you have been honest about the application and will be honest when he comes to see you - other than that you can't do a single thing to influence the decision and nothing any of us say will change the outcome anyway. Its not easy, but try to get used to only worrying about things you can do something about - when you are out of the process there is little point wondering what might be. Easy to say sat here, but I was the same waiting for mine. Best of luck mate!
Dave-G
Well put it this way - if you have "all feo's are legitimite people" tattoo'd on ya knuckles you wont have much to worry about, as opposed to... I know someone with an fac who went to borstal. He later did 6 month's for twoc, then got caught poaching within 5 years with an air rifle and got 3 months. It's all about you now, presumably you have grown up a bit more, got kids, got married, moved from a council sink estate to your own home, got a job etc. Think about how you have become a better person, with responsibilities, dependants etc, anything that shows you have moved on from the person that got in trouble. If he feels good about you being in possession of a firearm, possibly in the dark, on someone's farm, you are likely to get cleared. And don't lie about anything or leave ANY offence out, even motoring or one pending. As has been suggested before, the visiting officer will have pulled your file. It's his instinct that will sway the chief. I also know someone who was expecting his first visit the morning they pulled his file, found something was pending... and phoned him to call it off pending the outcome of an upcoming case he hadn't disclosed. That incident is still pending.
ziplex
Pin's hit the nail really, don't worry too much. I have recently reapplied due to an error my doc' made on responding to the licensing guys first time around. It has taken me over a year to get to the stage where i've been able to prove what was stated was incorrect, imagine how long that feels! You've little choice but to be patient in the meantime, ......and before anybody has a dig....no I don't **** my pants and only answer to the name of Shirley everytime I walk under power cables. Best of luck, i'm sure it'll be ok!
