Olliesims
Just a quick question I've been putting 40g rounds in my .223 for awhile now and I was wondering would the 40g cause a lot more barrel ware then a 50g? Or wouldn't cause that much of a difference
Fisheruk
Are they self loads and if so how hot are they?
Olliesims
There just factory loads running at 3800fps muzzle velocity

coyotemaster
No worries there 3800 won't wear it out very quickly unless you are bench shooting it bunches. I shoot 3880 from mine and have over 2K rounds through it and the rifling is still standing proud and accurate.
jamie g
keep wacking them down there. 223 doesnt use lots of powder. so throat wear isnt going to be as bad as say a 22/250. me i dont worry about barrel wear. a because i dont shoot as much as i would like to. and the other reason i like fast flat shooting calibres there fun ! 17 rem,22/250 and
Olliesims
Well I like the fast rounds as well that's why I'm thinking of getting a 22-250 and use the 50g
barrelsniffer
What are you guys that reload 40s in a 223 using...i may try them when home.
Olliesims
I'm only using factory rounds using federal v shock which use a nosler tip but as there trying to charge £35 for 20 ain't paying that got some Norma v max to try instead
al4x
the normas were a great round in mine and the brass is good for reloading if you go down that route.
ScottCromwell2
What do you think of the 40g? Do they drop much? and are they bad in wind?
Olliesims
There flatter shooting than higher grain rounds so there is less drop but yes the wind can move them a little more than a heavier round but not a massive amount
Radar70
Seems a bit light my .223 remington likes 55g vmax vit n135 flat to 200 yards 10 inch drop at 300yards
Bewsher500
There flatter shooting than higher grain rounds so there is less drop but yes the wind can move them a little more than a heavier round but not a massive amount based on what? iphone app? The drop difference is negligible, you will have more varation shot to shot down to your reloads than you will down to the ballistic coefficients of 40 vs 50gr .224 ammo what you will notice is the ability of the wind to shift it at post 150-200yds as it loses a lot more energy/velocity 40gr is only of use IMO if you are pushing them VERY fast 50/55s trump them in almost any other range/circumstance

My 22/250 pumps the 50's out at over 3800 fps with stunning accuracy. Great to see in scope when a crow or longe range bunny is flattened
