I know it might sound like it's being chopped and changed around, but I do think that we've got to consider the chaps who want to meet up, that are driving for a couple of hours to get there. After all it is just about meeting up. :santa:

What do the rest of you think ?

As I mentioned earlier, happy to push it back a bit, but it will be MENTAL on that day, so a 12:00 start will mean it takes a fair but of time to get round. Perhaps an 11:00 or even 11:30 meet in the carpark would better? That 30mins will make alot of difference.

I said at the begining that a registered shoot is not the ideal place for a meet up as it's bound to be busy, it makes a lot more sense for me to leave it for another day. I have no intention of driving down there and shooting with no brew etc;

I'll just go to Blackpool if it's dry, it's a lot less hassle.

I'll not be going, it means getting up at 7am to leave the house at about 8am then hit all the traffic on the motorway.

Make the time for the next one at noon and I'll give it a go.

seeing that you won't be abe to make it on the 23rd at catton hall, how about coniston on Boxing Day ,that includes you beeredup ? :D

I think we're just going round houses now. Myself, Martin and Baz will be there at 11:00. If anyone would like to join us, then please do so.

It seems that the people who would benefit from a late start (Blaser/Beeredup) are unlikely to make it anyway.

Looking forward to meeting you all!

See you there chaps.11.00 it is.

I should imagine that the ground will split you up into two squads, they wont let eight of you go round together. Squads are normally five shooters.

Best thing to do is enter as two squads of four, they might put someone else with you.

Mike,

Catton Hall is not squadded so they won't split you up into 2 squads and won't "put somebody with you". Oh and if it was squadded the normal squad size is 6.

Best advise is to listen to Yellow Bear he is very experienced and is very familiar with Catton Hall's competition shoots.

It is a registered shoot and there will be a mixture of serious competition shooters there who are trying to win £125 H/G or money in the CPSA classes. There will also be a significant number of CPSA members who are not in the competition (birds only) but are mainly as serious about their shooting as those in the comp.

CPSA have recently relaxed the rules and non members are now officially allowed to shoot alongside CPSA members at registered shoots, obviously those non members can't enter the competition but they are as welcome to the ground owner as any other shooter with, at Catton Hall at least, £25 in their hand.

So you'll roll up on the day, bacon & coffee if you want (not cheap!) and approach the booking in table. Just tell them you're not a CPSA member and you want to shoot birds only, they will gladly take your £25 and give your a scorecard in return.

Now then you have I suppose every right to band up, all eight of you into one squad and set off round the 14 stands. If you do you will not be desperately popular with those shooter queuing behind you. I am assuming there are some among you who are novices especially in competition shoots and I suspect you will be slower than more experienced shooters, not a criticism just an observation. This could lead to comments being passed and when pressure to finish is perceived this could lead to unsafe behavior and will, without doubt, lead to lack of enjoyment.

What I would suggest is that you split into two squads with a mix in both of the most experienced and the least experienced. The two squads can then split up, perhaps one turning right out of the clubhouse and the other left. That's it then, 14 stands a mixture of 3 & 4 pairs per stand the majority being report pairs with perhaps 1 or 2 stands of simultaneous pairs.

When you've finished and totted up your scores if you go back into the clubhouse you'll find the scores of the CPSA members on the computer screen and you can see how you would have done in the competition. Hopefully you will surprise yourselves and think I wish I'd been in the competition and it's not to late to ask for CPSA membership from Father Christmas.

Apologies if this sound condescending, it's not meant to be but I am under the impression there are some "virgins" among you. The only thing I would add is probably the most important, well after Be Safe that is. With one or two exceptions we are all doing this for enjoyment, it's our hobby, our stress relief, our escape. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter if we hit a lot less than we'd like, trust me you'll get used to that! Enjoy yourself and get hooked.

Thanks for the heads-up Mr Potter - not condescending at all, appreciate the clear advice. :)

I've never shot Catton before, and have only been shooting clays since Sept this year, so I'm treating it as a learning experience - not a complete novice, as I shoot three days a week currently at Worsley, Kelbrook, Fauxdegla and elsewhere - although don't take that as any sign that I'm gonna turn up and shoot a good round :D

Look forward to the meet folks.

Mr Potter is right in what he says. i explained to lock stock at the weekend that if your in a large squad, and with all the other shooters that will be there, it could be a long day. i would advise splitting up into two groups but this can cause problems as some want to shoot with eveyone. dont be put off by it being a registered shoot though, enjoy the day and also its a chance for those that are in the CPSA to get a score on the board for your averages next year.

It sounds like too much pressure for novices like me and the wife :( it doesn't sound enjoyable for beginners with 'pro's' queued up behind us in a competition.

Might just nip to Blackpool if our sgc arrives and we have time :) :)

Del T, don't be put off. Look Watch and Learn. Just by using your time at one of these registered shoots could help you to pick up valuable knowedge and its free. All these good shots started out just like you and your misses, theres nowt wrong with being a top shot and you could just pick up lots of information to add to your enjoyment.Mr Potter and Beretta on here are both superb shots, i dont think i heard them put you down like most experianced shooters they will try to assist where possible, they want to see more novices go onto better themselves. from Auntie.

It's putting me off reading through other posts about comp shooters complaining about birds only shooters and I have been shooting just over a year I have not shot a registered shoot yet and seeing as I am also at an Xmas ball the night before its too early a start for me to get to catton hope you all have a cracking meet :)

Del T - I think we have our answer here: out of the 8 or so of us, we split into two teams - the ones who are more experienced and want to crack-on can form one team and the ones like you, your Mrs and me can pootle round, enjoy some banter and just see how many we can hit - all nice and social. This way we cater for all needs.

How does that sound? :)

Fair go Andy, why not join us at Fauxdegla on the 22nd?
