Gozzy
Traveling to isle of Mann soon , not taking the car so will be a foot passenger , taking my shotgun with me but don't want to draw attention to myself by having a shotgun in a slip on the ferry ,is it permissible to to carry it broken down in a hold all ? Obviously will also pack my slip for when I get to destination /taking to shoot .
huffhuff
Yep, no problem. Just protect your wood and barrels against bashing around.

robbiep
You might want to check the conditions of carriage. They may insist on it being placed into secure hold luggage
robbiep
I've just had a quick look on another ferry company website that I've used in the past, up in Scotland. Firearms come under 'prohibited items' on a list of theirs, but they do put a proviso of 'without good lawful reason'. I'd phone and check, just to save yourself the possibility of getting your luggage scanned, and then finding yourself in a cell
Gozzy
Just doesn't feel right carrying it hidden , will print off there own website and take that and mention it when boarding to check in , " I've got a gun " hope they run screaming ! Does a sea cat have a hold
Dekers
You can carry the shotgun in whatever you like, there is no law about what you cover it with in a public place. That is a whole different ball park to what any carrier may list as conditions of travel though, best check with your carrier. I suspect most would not just turn up at an airport with a shotgun in a carrier bag, so best to check with the shipping line!
vulpicide
Remember your Certificate some companies insist the gun is locked in pursers care and some prohibit ammo altogether don't just turn up and announce you have a gun. The guy on the gate may right or wrong refuse to let you board. P & O the gun would be locked up by the Captain and returned to you at the other end. timb
P & O here in Dover, and the Channel tunel, just need to know that you have a gun. On the ferry it needs to be kept locked in the car whilst you are at sea. No restrictions on shotgun ammo so long as its for your own use.
