Ferret Master
Hi, I believe they are changing the law when it comes to dispatching deer. They are going to allow you to use .22 centrefires to stalk some smaller deer species and use a .22 rimmie for RTA's. Currently you are not allowed to do so but they said that because many people use them they are going to legalise them... I think. Big Dog
Yip! 12g with number 5-6 load 2" from the head. Draw a line from the eyes to the oppisite ear, which will give you an impact point about 30-50 mm above the eyes. It will drop like lead and there is no chance of a bad acident like which could be casued by a high powered rifled. I checked into this as farmer have ask mw to shoot cows for them when very sick or injured. There is a twist however, If a farmer is going to burry the cow at the botton of the field don't shoot it, you could be caught up in and illegal rangel. That was what I was advised by the BASC. Look up the website on I think is is humane slaughter or something like that. Hope this helps

miffy
Miffy, please explain. I thought they were banned? They are banned, with some exceptions as discussed in another thread already. My mate got his because his firearms officer phoned him up and asked him if he wanted a pistol It was just after the foot and mouth outbreak and my mate had been culling problem sheep for the authorities, i went with him on a couple of occasions and it wasn't a pleasent job. He got the pistol just incase any other outbreaks happened and incase he got called out by the council to cull any run away cattle etc.
il cacciatore
Found the other thread. I was under the impression a humane killer pistol had to be one of those ones gibby was selling (2 shot) but I guess you could argue that when your practicing with it 2 shots is unreasonable. That website that sells FAC5 only sells normal semi auto pistols as well as revolvers like your mates so I'm guessing that those are getting just as popular as the dedicated humane killer. Not sure but when you apply you just need good reason for the caliber and the use not the number of shots?

Number of shots will almost always be restricted to 2 shots, that is if you can get one in the first place. My mate argued that he didn't want just 2 shots incase he was stuck in a pen with a raging animal (something along those lines anyway) They gave it him with not much fuss after it was approved by the home office first.
