Hi

I've just got a Ugartechea 12g side by side in part ex off another forum member, I've never really come across them before so was curious to find a bit more out about them and the gun it's self. It's nice looking but simply engraved I'm not fussed about price as I'm not planning on selling it but wondered if I could find out the age/model and stuff like that. Serial number is 40726.

Cheers for the link bret according to the chart it was made in 1960 but I can't find any references to a model though.

Not sure on chokes either as it just says choke 17.3 18.5 on left barrel and choke 17.9 18.5 on the right barrel then further down towards the muzzle on both barrels it says 18.2, I can't find my choke gauge to check them though so I'm a bit stumped on that.

It feels really nice in the hands and comes up well, I'm off out to try it tomorrow on the crows so I'll see if it handles as well as it feels.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I have one my Dad brought for me when I was 14! From what I know about the gun they are Spanish.

He had the stock cut down for me and left ¼ cast, we kept the cut piece and had it re fitted 3 years later.

28 inch double triggers and an ejector, half and full choke. I can’t get on with it these days as I am so used to my Browning.

As you said simply engraved but nice chequering on the stock, it really needs boring out too ¼ and just under ½ which would make it very useful.

The formula for calculating chokes is larger dimension minus smaller dimension, divide the result by 25.4 to get the constriction in thou.

Your barrels look like:

18.5-17.3=1.2mm. Divide 1.2 by 25.4 and the result is 47 thou = tight Full choke.

18.5-17.9=0.6mm. Divide 0.6 by 25.4 and the result is 23thou = slightly tighter than Half choke.

The 47 thou doesn't surprise me. My AyA was 40thou in one barrel and 51thou in the other! If the gunmaker makes his off-the-shelf guns with tight chokes, the user can always have them opened. Mine are now 10thou and 20thou, quarter and half.

Enjoy your Uggie, I am waiting impatiently for a s/h Uggie .410 to arrive .....

Cheers

Nigel
