JDsniper
Can some one please point me in the right direction as best magnification for a new scope for my .22 hornet it currently has a 3x9x50 on Cheers
casts_by_fly
Personally, i like something with 4-6 at the low end and 14-18 at the high end. I have a 4-16 on my 17 hornet, had a 5-15 on the hmr, and have a 6-18 on the 223. I had a 6-24 on the 17 hornet but it was just a bit much. Your mileage may vary. Amazed
Can some one please point me in the right direction as best magnification for a new scope for my .22 hornet it currently has a 3x9x50 on Cheers I got a cheep 6 to 24 with mine and I thought I would be sat about doing long shot all the time. With time I find myself walking more with the rifle and am considering a good quality 8 x 56 or 6x 42 for lightness and being A bit Cheeper I can afford to get some nicer glass. So I suppose it's what do you want to do with it ? I think what you have will be fine up to 150 yards but any further and you will be wanting a bit more mag. All the best Karl. al4x
I'g agree with casts by fly, some depends what you want to shoot with it rabbits at 200 yards won't be overly good with an 8x56. Quality of scope matters more as you want more magnification most cheaper end scopes are fine to 16x but go much more they tend to struggle. Dekers
Can some one please point me in the right direction as best magnification for a new scope for my .22 hornet it currently has a 3x9x50 on Cheers I can never really get my head round these sort of posts, ok, you have a 3-9x50 on it at the moment, are you happy, if not what is wrong with it and what do you want more of? Magnification is FAR too personal as well, I always relate back a few years when I was at Bisley, 200 yards Short Siberia, with my .243 and the guy next to me was using his .243, I was on 6x mag and he was on 24x mag, both of our shots were going where we wanted! :good: Get and use what YOU are happy with! Alycidon
Hornet is limited to about 180 yards, I use a 3x9x36 on mine, no problems at all. A

Amazed
Funny as I shoot rabbits pretty easy @235meters. I use 12x. I was shooting pop bottles at 250 ish a week or so back seemed fine to me about 6-8 inch drop with a 40 grain vmax.
cockercas
Aslong as you have a decent load there very accurate. Altho mine gone to the dogs recently. It stopped shooting tight groups overnight(I say overnight I hadn't used it in a while) Steve K has had it and can only put it down to all the rain and its maybe got damp and swelled the stock. So seen as the stock needs some tlc I'm pillar bedding it.
