Waht to do with spent brass?

Someone at my club takes our spent brass to be weighed in at a scrap yard when he has sufficently enough (he has to sign a disclaimer to say there are no live rounds and he does sort through it). However, that is with a heck load of 30 calibre brass which is considerably bigger so it might take some time with your solitary HMR.

Legally wise you can chuck it in the rubbish bin or make ear rings from it,decorate your christmas tree because essentially its nothing after its fired.

Scrap yards for some reason are very reluctant to take them these days. Many of them simply refuse. No one seems to be able to figure out why but it has been suggested that either the home office or the police have put out some notice to scrap dealers not to take them. Perhaps its something to do with actually reprocessing them? I actually know a chap who has a large scrap yard who has an oildrum full of 7.62 brass that he can't get anyone to take off him for reprocessing.

Having said all that, unless you have a huge amount then it isn't worth weighing them in.

I know scrap yards that won't take rim-fire rounds. Reason given in case some primer compound is still in the rim.

That's weird because I've found more that will take them but only one will take CF both. This is why I suspect that they may have been advised against it by the government or someone. Perhaps they think that someone is going to get hold of them and reload them.
