Ok to start,...

Crime ref. 03/10/482

with humberside police dept.

been recieving calls for the last 4 weeks from mob 07048009978

the calls would come in.. then hang up 5-10 seconds after picking up... with breathing on the phone....

Finally last night.... (note this is not racist.. just a fact!) a asian sounding man.... finally spoke..... he asked me if I was MR. (then my wifes first name) and my sirname.

I kindly pointed out I was not my wife.. and nor was she a MR... lol.

anyway he started asking me to confirm details... etc... which I refused.. I asked what he was calling for and what company.. he said Country life financial.... and gave the address of 17 regent street london.

He couldnt give a post code.. and couldnt give a main tel number...... my wife took over and started yelling at this guy.... who didnt speak much english...

Anyway we have recieved calls from as early as 8am..... to 10 pm at night.

The mobile tel number is a prepaid card type... which I cant even find out the service provider... it does not accept incomming calls....

I have recieved on average 10 calls per day from them...

London police refered me back to humberside police dept.... what a nightmere... there has been a burst of crime near us... cars being broken in etc.. I cant sleep and am at the point where I stay up all night and sleep on and off during the day..... I have even spoken to a officer wed night... when my car was attempted to be broken into..... I wont say what I used.... to make the criminals nearly **** there pants.. but I will say that according to the police it was legal... but finding out the crook... was only 12 years old!!!! there were quite a few that night that went to the police station.. and ultimatly to there parents....

so I am going crazy.. with this rubbish.... cars being broken into.... trash cans being made into petrol bombs.... prank calls..... see my situation..

OH yeah.. We live in a very posh part of the woods... and crime has been no more than some one driving a scooter without tax.... all of a sudden all this happens....

I wouldn't imagine that the telephone calls are in any way connected to local crime in your area.

It sounds like a version of "phishing", where you receive a telephone call/email and are asked to confirm certain personal/financial details, that would enable the caller/sender to clone your identity.

When you asked for an address, the chap obviously blurted out the first thing that came to his mind.

Its surprising that you have received a number of calls, because normally once they are told to go away, you don't hear anymore.

If you have reported it to the Police and BT, then thats about all you can do.

Should they ring again, just put the telephone down.

Cranfield.

your 100% right.. I am sure there is no connection... but its just showing that I am fed up.

I have as you can see above reported it to the police... the next stage is changing my tel number.. but I dont think that will do much good...

I luckly didnt give out details.. as I never do on the phone.

anyway... good advice bud.

Sounds disturbing, forget about the Company he says he's calling from as its definitely bogus, he must have got your details from somewhere which is of concern but the police will be useless as its a pay as you go phone. The best bet is to get hold of your phone supplier as they can sometimes block the number from being connected through to you, though this really only works if you are with BT as the others seem pretty inept at it! Also try and find what network the mobile is on and start pestering them with the police details and try and get him disconnected.

Alternatively you can just answer the call and leave the phone off the hook to cost the guy as much as possible.

I gave #07048009978 a ring and it's turned off. Having a lads night tonight so I'll give him a few morning wake up calls tonight if it's on.

Think we should all do the same

bit childish but what comes around goes around :good:

On a serious note, ignore the number in future, save it in your phones contact list and put it down as an "ignore" contact, that way the phone will automatically cut off the call before you even realise he's ringing.

just tried the number and theres a recorded message saying its a prepaid phone card etc. i got one of these several months ago, and again it was an asian man. after speaking to him twice and getting well angry with him, eveytime he phoned i answered it and put it down again leaving him connected. this went on for two more days then suddenly stopped. hopefully it cost the moron loads of credit.

Erm, don't call this number! Really, don't!

0704 isn't a UK mobile no, its either a "follow me" number or an international mobile with an assigned "07" number while its here.

Its easy to divert these numbers to any other number you like, including those which you can set your own tariff on. All UK mobiles begin 077, 078 or 079.

Oftel records show that numbers starting 07048 0 are allocated to Cheers International Telecom Ltd website here http://www.cheers.co.uk/

Might be legit, there are many legit uses for those numbers, most ain't, though. Just google for "070 scam" if you want some more proof.

Update....

Heres a email recieved by me.. from Kingston Communications... my phone provider...

Mr Ramsey

I have spoken to Cheers International today and they have assured me

that there is nothing sinister with regard to this 0704 number. They told

me that it is someone trying to use a phone card to contact you. I have

checked on your phone records and you are only charged pennies to call

this number back. You are certainly not diverting to a premium rate

number. I hope this puts your mind at rest.

With regard to stopping the calls, they could be of no help. I informed

them that you are prepared to go to Ofcom, and that you have a police

reference number but to be honest they did not appear to be too

concerned, but he did take your details and said he would look into it further.

We at KC can offer to intercept your calls so that should you want to

take the matter further with the police you will have a record of the

calls. Should you wish to discuss the interception service please feel

free to call myself or one of my coolegues in the nuisance call

department, who will be happy to go through it with you.

Regards

Gill Harris
