cockercas
If i put in a 2nd cabinet do i legaly have to inform the police were it is?. As i understand it. Its my responsibilty to prevent un authorised acsess. Id rather no one knew of its wereabouts.
Tod
I should think the police will have to approve the cabinet as fit for keeping firearms/shotguns in first so they will see where it is when they inspect it.
cockercas
Is there any law to tell them tho? I dont need one but could do with more space but i want to store stuff in there were i would rather no one knew about.
sixhills 69
You will need to inform your licencing department the police system will be updated so if you are ever burgled or for some reason officers need to visit your house they will be aware of were your firearms are in the house Your feo will also check to make sure they are happy with it
cockercas
Il just buy one, install it and not use it for guns then.
Tod
If you are keeping firearms in it then you need to tell them so they can approve it, if your not keeping firearms in it then you dont need to tell them, why not just buy a safe and put it where you like. Tod
I have 3 cabinets but only use 2 and was told every time you add one it will need approving to ensure it is acceptable and fitted correctly, a quick call to your firearms dept would be the way to go. bi9johnny
If you are storing firearms in a second cabinet that has not been inspected by the police you are looking for trouble mate. If your increasing your holding capacity they need to know. Your security I.e. your cabinet is passed for a number of guns for you to hold in that cabinet. If you want it for other stuff apart from guns then it is a safe so no you don't have to ask them

steve_b_wales
I have 4 cabinets, and, apart from when the first one was fitted, I have never notified the police. When my licence was due for renewal back in 2010, my FEO called, and did'nt bat an eyelid when I showed him my 3 cabinets (1 more bought last year) As long as the cabinet is 'police approved' there is no need to inform them. Blunderbust
I have added a second cabinate and have not informed the Police about it. I am sure when it comes to renewal they will have a look at it. The cabinate is a Police approved setup and it is bolted to the same wall as the first one so I cant see a problem. Further to this I also can not find it stated anywhere that you need to inform them of getting a second cabinate.
philm
I fitted 2nd cabinet, phoned feo, she came out to check it, I asked why check, got reply "for my own piece of mind after what's happened in the past" also updates how many guns can be stored. bedwards1966
There is NO requirement to notify the licencing department. It is your responsibility to store guns securely, not theirs. You may notify them if you wish, if you don't they may get in touch to ask why/how you are storing say 10 guns in a 5 gun cabinet. If/when they find out about it (if they ring and ask you about it, or at renewal) they may choose to inspect it, but that is purely their own rules and nothing to do with the law.
